Hot Starter, Car wont start
Hot Starter, Car wont start
Hey guys, so because of the heat we have been having lately i am having problems with my starter... If my car has been driven a while earlier in the day the car wont start when trying to crank it (start it). My guess is the starter gets too hot and selenoid just wont turn. Anyone else having problems? anyone have a solution? tried searching but didnt really have any luck... PLEASE HELP !!!

`04 and just at 13,000 miles... it does also have a Stillen stage 2 SC on it... all installed at Stillen's shop...
Russ at stillen told me it was something the warranty with the dealership would cover, but i'm affraid a new starter may not fix it forever...

Well, does it happen all the time? When you turn the key do you hear any sound? Clicking noise or just nothing? How many times do you have to turn the key to get it to turn over? It might be a loose connection at the starter solenoid.
it only does it when the car is hot... Sometimes it will start half way and die, then nothing on the next turn of the key. so it starts to crank and dies basically. but most of the time it does nothing when the car is hot, if i let it cool it will eventually crank over and start.

THat doesn't mean its the starter...Reason is the engine is cranking but not starting..That means the starter is working...Then you must have a heat soak problem with either the fuel system...Some of the acura TL had that problem...The car cranks but doesn't start...They had us replace the fuel regulator...Not sure if that's common on the G tho..The problem i see you taking the car back to the dealership is for them to try to duplicate the problem...They might blame it on the install of your SC...Make sure it's a consist problem and figure out when it does it...Be very detailed so the tech can try to find out the problem...
well it doesnt usually crank over... most of the time i turn the key and nothing. Occasionally it will crank half way but not start. Luckily the car is warrantied with the SC on it, so they fuss about that. thanks for the help though i will investigate that too.

i have an 05 6mt and i have the same problem after i put my headrers and exhaust on. i got told the same thing about the starter. it gets hot under the hood and it just seems like you have dead battery almost.
Had this problem with my hi-compression, 468ci big-block '55 Chevy. Never thought the G would suffer the same, but I wouldn't doubt it with the supercharger under there and this excessive heat.
If you're not sure what the fix is, try the fastest and cheapest fixes first.
Get some of the insulating material/blankets (I think Dynamat has something, but you could check Summit Racing or Jeg's online and find what you need) and wrap the starter. They makes kits for all models of V8 starters, etc., but getting the material and wrapping it yourself would be nearly as simple.
While you're at it, you might as well pick of some similar insulated line covers and whatever else you might need to cover critical items that you believe are suffering. For about the cost of a diagnostic at the dealer, you could add some heat protection. Even if it doesn't solve the problem, you've still addressed a concern and will get the benefit of doing so.
But if it's truly a heat-soaked starter, a starter blanket will certainly help.

I think you can bypass the starter solenoid and hook up a hot lead to the starter's output. not real auto savvy but i had this problem on an old supra. if it starts bypassed, then it's the solenoid. if not you'll have to bust out the flow chart again.
