Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

rx,
First tune up is at 100,000 miles.
Tune up = new spark plugs and wires

First scheduled Service is 3,750 miles = oil change only.

Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

did you mean oil filter? It's a good idea to just do it yourself. You need to get that undertray off to do a clean job. I just unbolt the outer 12 bolts towards the middle of the car. Then the plastic under tray just folds down and I can easilly get to the filter and drain bolt.

Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

I just did my first AFTER THE BREAK in oil change at 2000 miles. I switched to AMSOIL Synthetic motor oil and Mobil 1 filter. Now i can change my oil every 5 - 7k miles and not worry about anything.

To change the oil you will defently need jacks. at least for the front 2 of them. will make it much easier. The Oil filter and the bolt are located not to far from the passanger wheel... on the same distance from the front. and can be a pain if you dont take the splash shield off. Cant remember how many bolts you have to unscrew... but i think there are like 8 or so + a plastic clip. I left the plastic clip in and just bent it down.

Defently a DIY job but if you dont wanna get messy just go to a lube place ... shouldnt be more then 30.

MY SUGGESTION: get your own oil and filter and let them put that on if anything. MOBIL 1 makes really good oil filters and if you invest ina good motor oil you will keep the engine in good condition.

Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

go with 5w30 you dont need anything havier till you put like 60,000 + miles on it. Synthetic has a higher burn temp so it holds up better in heat or when you push the car. if you are easy on it... then you can easy go 7k + miles on a single oil change.

I barely drive the car... family rarely does anything with it either. so it basically sits there all the time. I rather drive my Prelude then the G.

Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

during the warranty period, I would either have the dealer change the oil or a reputable oil changing service. Don't give infiniti any reason to void your warranty

Save your receipts and they won't have a reason.

hey ... be nice

what can i say i love the lude. g35 is more of a out on the night car right now.

dont get me wrong... i will do pretty much everything to the G come next year. but for now i'm gonna enjoy it as is. I invested a lot of my own time and money into the prelude.... whe let it go to waste.

Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

first of.... you dont have to go to the dealer to change the oil.

second... they cant void the waranty simply cause you didnt show up to them for oil changes... thats just plain BS and stupid. As long as you have receipt and everything is done the way its suppose to there is no need to go.

my 1997 i30 and 2000 i30t went to the dealer like 2 times in the times i had them. all other times everything was done elsewhere. they never once even mentioned the void of waranty.

the only way they can say that ...if another place messes up your car or you do it. then they have a reason....and even then..... they stil have to prove it.

Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

Man you guys are touchy. For your warranty to stay valid you need to follow all the guidlines set forth in the your user manual in regards to maintenance at various mileage intervals. Getting your oil changed at the dealer is expensive but you get a free car wash. This not only lightens your wallet but you will build a repore with the service manager which might be to your favor in the future. Or get it changed at a reputable oil change place. While you can save the recieipts from kragen, you cannot prove you that you installed the oil filter correctly or tightened the drain plug to it's proper rating. Could Infiniti void your warranty? Its a crap shoot. First they would have to prove that the failure was negligence on your part of changing the oil. And really do you enjoy the aggravation of changing your old oil? I used to do it myself but then realized that for a few bucks more, you can have someone else do it and worry about the mess and disposal of the oil. If you don't trust them you can alway inspect and double check their work.

Re: FIRST TUNE-UP?

if you think paying 50 bucks for oil change is good just to get a free wash, then i rather do everything myself and i will know for sure things will get done the right way and will be perfect.

I havent taken the G or Prelude the wash in over 2 yrs and i'm not about to now. car washes...mess up the paint with scratches and half the time its still dirty. so why bother. i do i ton my own and i enjoy it. cause when i'm done i can step back and enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Changing oil is a pretty straight fwd thing. but if you dont wanna get dirty pay someone else to do it. I usually check everything when i go else where to get it done. ALWAYS check it. cause i'm **** about my car. but just because you take it to the dealer doesnt mean they will do a perfect job. there were times where the dealer would service the car and either neglect something or mess something up. and most of the time they dont wanna admit it. why cause it makes them look bed.

building relationship with a dept or service manager is a waste of my time. you know why ... cause there is nothing he will ever do for me that i cant do on my own. its not like he is gonna give me a free check up or give me discount on parts...so why bother. yes i'm friendly to the people there... and they remember me but other then that... they could care less about me... just as i bout them. cause when i leave.... some jo blow like me is gonna walk in and they have to be nice to him.

however ...going to a small mom and pop shop...will probably earn you more point with them then anywhere else. cause they take each customer that comes in all the time as a good sign and they treat them better then walk ins.
