i have a 2004.5 5AT coupe (slightly heavier than your sedan) with a 3/8" MD spacer and K&N for mods.

I had a ss supercharged with a loud exhaust try to take me along a stretch of road on 3 separate occasions - from a roll going about 25-45 mph and it could not do it. I would pull, but only slowly in 2nd and much harder in 3rd.
From a stop, I don't know...

I don't think you'll have a problem (from a roll) but you need to keep it in high rev (using MM mode) - you can toy with it, but don't sleep on the car. It's got less power but it's also lighter.

i wouldn't have bet any money on it - if you screw up a shift, you might lose but that's the case with just about any race.

if he do mods with his supercharger or better tuning + downpipes, you are pretty done; they can run low 5secs easily

Not exactly a good bragging point to take on american half a** muscle. GT500, GTO or Vette and then you're talking! Of course that won't happen unless you do some very serious modding!!

Is his stock? Then it'd be close, but you should be able to beat him. That's assuming he can shift well as those come only in manual. But, it'd be close. This coming from a GM-lover as well. But I might add, those cars FEEL SOOOOOOO much freaking faster than they are. They feel like they're doing 60 in under 6 seconds. It's just got a ton (for an I4) of torque right off the line. They're fun, good cars.

Also, the Ecotec 2.0 that is in that as well as the Saturn Ion Redline (essentially the same car mechanically) are tops for modification in the compact/I4 category. There's a reason why a Cobalt SS with the Ecotec 2.0 broke the 200 MPH speed barrier, and why they can eat VTEC's, etc all day and all night long on the track and at stoplights.

No need to be that proud of anything, don't get yourself worked up about it. Getting mad about someone insulting your car is silly, simply ask the guy nicely if he wants to run and back up what he is saying.

+1 And if you DO do it on the street (not that I agree with that, but if you do...) make sure it's like 2 AM on the freeway when the only 2 people around you are YOU TWO. That way, if something bad happens, the only people who get injured/killed are those who are partaking, and no non-involved parties get involved. Hate to sound harsh, but that's my thought.

Track, however, is the best way... safest, and hell, IMO funnest.
