Would a damaged evap canister throw CEL?

I was involved in an accident and damaged the passenger side rear of my car a few days ago, and today the CEL came on. Could a damaged evap canister cause this? My car goes into the shop next week for repairs, and I just wanted some peace of mind for the next few days.

seems likely since it's part of the emissions system.

broken canister will mean large EVAP leak...the code will be GROSS EVAP LEAK...you can also throw the same code if you dont tighten your gas cap or you lose your gas cap...
