hopefully i'll get a new tranny.
I had the same noise driving the first 10 minutes during warm up. The pitch of the whining/whirling noise changes as you increase your speed. When you coast on neutral the sound goes away but one you put it back in gear the noise comes up. Dealership confirmed it was the tranny. Got it replaced no hassle no problems.

sorta sounds like this guy lol

I have a whirring/grinding noise that occurs within the first 10 seconds after I start accelerating, and just like you, it only occurs after the car has been parked for a while. It's like a gearbox grind or something, and lasts for the same 2 seconds each time, and then it goes away. It happens every morning when I start moving the car out of the driveway. I have an Auto. I figure it's normal?

took it for a ride with a tech today and he finally heard the noise.
he has to diagnose it further but told me if he had to change out the tranny, i'd have to put my stock exhaust back on or else they'll charge me extra or something.
is this how it is??

accordfreak, which dealership did you go to?

nice. glad they heard the noise. They SHOULD change out the tranny with that noise. There's nothing really to diagnose. I went to Frontier infiniti in santa Clara. nor cal..

I've had this happen to me, wound up just being low on oil. Before I figured out what it was it would just happen for the first ten minutes, and like you said would go away when you were coasting. I thought it was coming from the transmission at first, but then it got really bad, whined continuously. Didn't think it was oil because it didn't knock like other cars, but actually found the answer after searching this board. Check the oil

I've checked before, and it is not the same problem I am having. I suspect that the belt has gotten loose. It only happens when it is warm enough outside. Possibly allowing the belt to "stretch" more.

i changed my belts b4 i took my car into the dealership since i had the UR pulley and it wasn't the belt.

the dealer confirmed it's the tranny. (in my case anyway)

My alternator whines pretty loudly in the morning. I found it by listening with the skid plate removed. It goes away after a while. It sounds exactly like the alternator whine you would get through an aftermarket stereo that is not grounded right - but comes from the alternator body.
