GROUP BUY: Unorthodox Racing SS Pulleys
In light of the New Facts I asked Unorth if they would be willing to offer a group buy - which they are thru Stillen.
<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>
They would be glad to facilitate a group buy. The policies our dealer must abide by for group buys are:
15-39 purchasers = 20% off the web-site price
40 or more purchasers = 25% off the web-site price
Respectfully,

Color choices are Blue, Red, Black and Polished

If interested, list your handle and color choice below this line. When we get up to 15 we'll take the pulse to see who wants to keep waiting for 40. Copy the names and colors to keep the thread going...thanks, ted

Re: GROUP BUY: Unorthodox Racing SS Pulleys
In a nutshell, they reduce the amount of accessory and pulley weight on the Crank, returning power to the engine.
From the Stillen site:
An average of 8 to 15 HP and 6 to 10 lbs.-ft. on normally aspirated engines and 10 to 18 HP and 10 to 20 lbs.-ft. on forced induction engines. Higher gains can be realized on modified engines.
Power gains are obtained in two ways. First, and most important, is the weight loss. An average of 2.7 HP is gained from every pound lost off the crank shaft. With the lighter accessory pulleys, as much as 15% to 30% more power can be found. 85% of our gains are from weight loss.
The rest of the gains are from underdriving, which accounts for about 15% of the total gains. Underdriving is not pushed for two main reasons. The main reason is to keep charging systems, air conditioning, power steering, and water pumps moving fast enough for every day driving. Second, not much horsepower is gained from extreme underdriving. In most applications all of the underdriving is done with the crank pulley, not the accessory pulleys. This is done so maximize weight loss can be achieved at the crank where most of the horsepower gains are found.
Regarding the warranty (from Shawn B., owner pres of Unorthodox Racing)
<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>
#3. And, would it void our stock warranty on certain engine components?
Answer: Our pulleys will not void the warranty because
there is nothing the pulleys could do to cause a failure
of any other component. See the Magnusen-Moss Act
requires dealers and OE's to prove the aftermarket parts
caused a failure before they can void your warranty.
Besides our pulley will extend the life of your engine by
reducing the stress from weight and the fact that the
factory pulleys overdrive the accessories therefore
reducign their service life. For OE's thats called planned
obsolescence, they really make their money on parts
after the sale.
