Cleaning Throttle Body: How? diy?

I have been searching this forum on cleaning TB on our car, but no luck. Recently, I just cleaned my dad's maxima TB and it made huge difference. My car has 37K on it and I know dealer cleaned my TB on 30K service, but I still like to know how?

Here is what I know, it's not good idea to touch butterfly valve in TB since our car have to relearn the whole process, and its better to have battery disconnected.

I also heard from g35frenzy.com that some member had problem with TB after taking out the whole assembly and cleaned it. I guess he touched the valve and didn't do relearn. They had to take it the dealer to fix the problem.

just spraying TB cleaner will clean some of it but not all.

What are the suggestions?? BG44k intake cleaner??? I might write DIY on this if we come up with a solution. thanks

from my experience disconnect the battery...disconnect the intake tube...leave the TB on the car now you can see the TB butterfly...just spray

the TB cleaner in there and wipe away the dirty liquid...and do it a few times...you can move the butterfly while you clean it too...also do not

disconnect the TB wire...if your TB is dirty, after the cleaning, you'll notice a huge difference...and one more thing, if your computer does get

out of whack, do a 12hr battery disconnect...i spoke to 3 other members that had a problem with the idle after the cleaning (we all removed the TB from the

car when cleaning which probably caused it to get out of whack) and they did the 12hr battery disconnect which cured the problem...if that doesn't fix it

then your gonna have to take it to the dealer like i did...but trust me it's worth it...
let me get this straight, wouldn't it hard to move bufferfly while cleaning inside of TB?? what's your technic of cleaning it?? do you use toothbrush and lint free cloth??

There wont be any problems touching the bufferfly as long as I don't disconnet TB assembly?

will it be better to do pedal ecu reset after one cleaned it then start the engine??

Just take your whole upper plenum off and clean the whole thing. you would be suprized at how much grime and oily **** is stuck to your upper and lower plenum. I would say just take the whole thing off and then clean the throttle body and the plenum. just my .02 cents though!

interesting idea except I wouldn't take TB assembly off since people ran into problems in the past. I don't want to spend my weekend time at dealer.

can you direct me how to take out upper plenum?? I can do search but lazy for now...

no it's not that hard...just spray the tb cleaner around the butterfly and press the butterfly down a couple of times...wipe away the liquid and repeat...sure

it would be good to get the other side too, but you'll see huge improvements by just doing this...and also the tb liquid drips to the other side and cleans it

a little too...yea i don't think you'll have a problem with the butterfly as long as you don't disconnect it...you don't even need to disconnect the battery

but it's a good precaution...You will not need to do the pedalreset...but if you experience high rpm at idle...just disconnect you battery and pump the brake

pedal until you can't anymore...then reconnect...alot of people just disconnect for 12hrs to be sure...

You can take off the whole upper plenum with the throttle body attached to it! You dont have to take off the throttle body to take off the plenum. There are a couple hoses that plug in the under side of the throttle body that are a pain in the *** to get to, but if you have someone help you it is basically cake walk. Then when you take the whoile plenum and throttle body off togather you will have complete access to clean the throttle body as well without having to worry about problems.

This DIY instructs to remove TB assembly, but can you remove the upper plunem without removing TB?? If so, how? skip the step??

yes you can remove the upper plenum without removing the throttle body. Just take the same steps you would when removing the upper plenum. Then on the underside of the throttle body there is one hose that plugs in, and then on the other side of the throttle body there is a hose that plugs in as well (it points in the direction of the battery). Then you just simply unbolt the bolts and thats it...

EDIT: I have pictures at home that i will post up when i get there...
