I wonder if they ever did the crystal on the fuel line thing?... I remember when I was a kid (in the 70's) the hippy dippy types claimed that the energy from a pure crystal strapped to fuel lines would help mpgOriginally Posted by speedracerg35
yes, mythbusters did this and there was no significant change.
Totally bogus to me but another good Myth Buster challenge

I have a 2003 5at sedan and ran it in there a few times (2.5 oz. to ten gallons) and went from 21 -22 mpg to 24-26 tried acetone in my 1990 ranger 2.3 liter 5 speed and every time i put it in I got 4 to 5 miles to the gallon more. But I'm too tired to do it anymore.

Does it take a lot of energy to do this or something?...

It takes hardly any energy to do this, I was just making fun of dTor's response. I've heard it works alot better on the old carburated vehicles by the way the ranger I added 3oz. per ten gallons

On my old mustang I added 1/2 a gallon of acetone to a full tank(about 15 gallons) and didn't notice anything except my injectors began leaking.

1/2 gallon=64 ounces per 15 gallons. Wow! Suggestion is to put 1-3 oz per 10 gallons. Originally Posted by jjyellow

I will try it on my dads 96 Mazda and see what happens. He is getting new car anyway soon.

On the other hand, used cooking oil was proven to be a ligitimate substitute to gasoline.

Funny! I just came here to say the same thing... in fact Acetone lowed their MPG slightly... but the farmers pants did explode from insecticide (or something)... It's a re-run I forgot I had seen in.Originally Posted by 617G
