variable valve timing ???

I read somewhere that for the 05's that electronic variable valve timing was added to the exhaust. I thought all first gen g35 come with variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust. Any of you know anything about this?

For 2005, several modifications have been made including a new electronic exhaust valve timing, improved cooling and air flow and strengthening of several components, resulting in an increase of horsepower and torque to 280 horsepower (from 260 hp) and 270 lb-ft of torque (from 260 lb-ft) for models equipped with the advanced 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

I have a 2005 Coupe and am about ready to go FI
do you know if the statement about the strengthening components refers to the engine internals?
would this mean the 05's have stronger internals and can take FI better than
the older models?
and last are these statements about the non rev-up motors since it is refencing the auto's

Thanks for any helpful info on these questions

Tony,

You have the non-rev-up motor because yours is the AT 280/280 motor.
Otherwise the SC would not have fit.

Pre '05 models only have variable valve timing on the intake valves. The exhaust valves don't vary.

'05 up has variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust valves.

I wonder then why the horsepower difference is not significant according to dynos I've seen here between 03/04 -vs- 05/06. I know they have it rated at 280 but seems to be an inflated number.

I've never compared graphs from the different motors side by side but I've heard that the torque curve is affected more then the total hp.

Hmm. I looked at a 05 Sedan's engine and I didn't see any VTC buldge for the exhaust cams. Wasn't the exahust VTCs a rev up engine only option?

Well they say its electronic on and now that you bring that up I also read somewhere that the VTC on the intake side is hydraulic....Maybe thats the bulge diff. I'll try to look for that article.

Yes but for the 6mt. All 5at equiped G35 (sedan and coupe) had the 280hp motor.
