So apparently my oil consumption rate is way to high for my 6MT.
In fact they tell me that it's burning too much oil..

to my understanding, cars aren't suppose to burn any oil right? It kind of cycles it around which is why you need oil changes?..

So today, I'm getting my car back with a brand new engine. I've already gotten a new passenger window, new transmission and now a new engine.

The lady tells me to stay under 3000 RPM's for the first 10K miles. FIRST 10K !
Isn't that excessive? How boring is the drive to keep under 3000 RPMS for
10K !!!!

Anyone else experience this? Also what's the proper break in period , I thought it was 2K or something..

 

As far as I know it is the first 1.5k...

 

shes one crack. 1k is sufficient

 

2k is plenty I usually just go 1500-1750 change my oil for the first time then slowly increase revs over the next 1000 or so. By 3k or so you can go up to redline.

 

Your car should have included an owner's manual. I suggest following the break-in procedure as stated there.

 

I never broke my motor in, I redlined it straight out of the dealership. Of course it was warmed up, but, yeah I got the treatment on the first day. Till this day , (12,800 Miles later), she hasnt burned not a single Qt. of oil, and it feels it has gotten stronger since I bought her. Follow the owner's manual if you choose, but dont be surprised if that new motor does the same thing your previous one did. Some people are such wimps. This VQ was made to run hard, its a trackable car. This is the same motor the Z has, the Z can run on the Nurburgring all day and all night if you had the tires and gas to do so. You want a strong non oil-burning motor? Do yourself a favor and break it in by running it hard from day 1. I guarantee you, you will have a strong motor in the end, that DOESNT drink oil. True story...

 

Below 3K RPM! What a joke. The worst thing you can do to a new engine is to lug it along or drive it at constant speed for hours. Make sure it is fully warmed up, then just drive it normally. Give it some throttle every so often up to redline, just dont keep it there long. The key is to avoid sustained high RPM operation for more than several seconds. But it is important for the motor to experience high RPM's and loads early on. Then change the oil at 1000-1500 miles and it should be fully broken in.

 

So many different opinions, i don't know what the best one is :/
