purolator filter review

*i do not work for, sell, or care about the purolator company... all information is personal opinion*

i used mobil 1 5w-30 enhanced performance with mobil 1 enhanced performance filter. the automatic transmission gear shifting was smooth, and the engine ran clean for a little while, but turned regular and then bad very quickly.

500 miles ago, i put in mobil 1 5w-30 not enhanced performance, and i used purolator pureone oil filter. the engine runs literally 10x better than before, and i was wondering why. but, i think it is because of the filter. the engine shifts smoothly, and cruising is much easier because the engine does not decelerate as quickly as before.

am i just imagining this improvement, or has anyone else experienced this also?

p.s. the mechanic doing the oil change said he likes Bosch filters, but has never tried purolator. what do you all think?

Its all in your imagination or its the oil. The m1 and pureone filters have already been disassembled and have very similar build characteristics. Both a high quality oil filters, with the pureone being significantly cheaper

you are going to have to explain what motor oil has to do with the shifting of the transmission. if the car felt poor with the first oil you mentioned then maybe the oil level was low due to burning or perhaps the level was not correct to start with.
if the mechanic liked bosch then chances are it was european shop with more of a german influence or he is a fan of german cars.

well, i'm not sure what the oil has to do with the transmission. all i know is, when it's time to get an oil change, the shifting gets rough and after the oil change, the shifting is always smooth.

it was a japanese specialty shop, and the mechanic drove a dodge neon.

he also put in water in the reservoir and put air in my tires. but, i don't think that's why the engine was running smoother and revving a lot faster. maybe this time all the old oil really drained out, or regular mobil 1 is better than mobil 1 extended performance. but, i still think it's because of the filter. i remember the post about taking the filters apart. i thought it showed that the mobil 1 filter was not as good as purolator? i don't remember that part though.

The PureOne is all I use on every vehicle I own. There may be better performance for the really expensive Amsoil Nano/Mobil 1 filters, but not by much. For the price, hard to beat the PureOne. Especially if you change oil at 4-5K anyway.

Conclusion Napa good. Although I still believe their Gold version is better.

NAPA
They sell two lines of oil filters: NAPA Silver and NAPA Gold. They are both made by Dana (Wix) and there is no obvious difference between them. They may have different elements, but NAPA does not state that this is true.

Wix
Another quality oil filter similar in design to the Purolator. It has metal end caps on the filter element, a standard nitrile anti-drainback valve, and a seemingly good flow. They are manufactured by the Dana corperation. These appear to have a depth gradient filter element, which uses cotton fibers to progressively trap smaller particles as they get deeper in the filter. This helps maintain good flow as the filter gets plugged.
