Hood liner... do I need it?

Gurus, please help...

I just installed the Richie FST V2 and have it set to the lowest setting. It clears the plenum just fine but hits the hood liner.

I removed the liner and now it's perfectly clear.

Is it ok to run without the liner or will the engine heat damage the paint on the hood? Please help.

Thanks.

Back in the day, Mercedes, BMW, and Jaguar paint would crack from the heat. Paint technology has come a long way since the early/mid 80's. Besides all European cars just plain s u c k and the paint probably would have cracked anyway.

If it were mine, find some type of an aftermarket heat barrier type thing that's thinner...

cheaper to modify the hood liner to fit the strut bar... if it were me, I would sprinkle some powder on the bar - mark where it hits the liner. Take the liner off and use a rotary tool to cut those sections out.

Good suggestion. It has to be there for a reason, I would hate for someone to find out why the hard way.

Thanks all for your help...

I like the modification idea. I'm going to go ahead and try that.

Thanks again.

Better for the strut bar to be touching the hood liner, than the plenum. My arc bar slightly rubs the hood liner--but it doesn't bother me at all really.
