Anyone advance their timing yet?

I know some of the 350Z owners have advanced their timing a couple of degrees w/ some good success. Has anyone done it to their G's yet? It can be done w/ a Consult right?

Re: Anyone advance their timing yet?

I've advanced my timing by 2 degrees. It's now 17 degrees BTDC. I'd have gone the full 5 degrees if we had better gas here in Taxifornia. It was done using a Consult unit.

Dave,
Have you 'dyno' it? ... or any butt-dyno impressions?
I wonder how much you've lost at the low end.

Re: Anyone advance their timing yet?

Clint,

I actually ended up with a 4 degree change. It was running 13 degrees BTDC. I'm reasonably sure the midrange power was improved, also my off-the-line power seemed a little better.

It's my understanding that many of the 350Z guys are going the full 5 degrees with a stock ECM program.

Re: Anyone advance their timing yet?

Im kinda dumb to the timing thing. What advantage is gained by bumping the timing ? I have opened up the intake and exhaust and going to have my Ecu flashed .Will technosquare do this when they flash it ? Or will I need to tell them to do it ?

Couldnt afford it when young...gonna play when Im old

Re: Anyone advance their timing yet?

Good Question,
Before the G35 I got a G20 and with 5 degrees more you can feel the difference.
We need a good number for our G. I will ask the dealer mech's

Dave,
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear it 'feels' faster down low as well. Maybe you ought to sign up for that Dyno session in the West Forum. I'm interested, but I believe they're gonna have it on the same weekend that I'll be at Laguna Seca.

How do you advance the timing on our Gs?

Re: Anyone advance their timing yet?

Larry,

The only way I know to set the timing is to use a dealer's Consult II (ECM code reader/programer). The unit is real expensive and not sold to mere mortals like us. The shop manual indicates initial engine timing is 15 degrees BTDC + or - 5 degrees.
