Oil Weight choice?
climate will play a large role as well existing mods such as FI. i am running through some existing stock of 5w-30 but plan to switch to 0w-40 when it depletes. my climate is rather mild compared to some extremes in the country. if you want some great info on factual information then look over on my350z.com for the oil analysis in the modifications section. there are plenty of samples that show which oil would be favored for use in your VQ.
The viscosity of oil is selected so that the hottest idle oil pressure exceeds the minimum number with a brand new filter and oil...................as bearings wear the hot idle pressure drops.
As oil filters dirty up their safety bypass opens and there will be no filtration above a certain rpm.
Important when oil is cold and pressures are high [first 5-10 minutes after cold start].
Select the filter and oil which matches your local temperature situation.
Many cruise down the interstate at speeds [rpms] where the oil viscosity and filter result in no [zero] filtration especially after a few thousand miles of use.
With an accurate external oil pressure and oil temperature gauge set, GRAPH the pressure vs temperature of oil you select. Watch it change as the miles [HOURS] of use escalate.
