nismo thermostat

hey, everyone.
i saw couple of nismo part upgrade
i just curious about this part call nismo thermostat. I can't find any description about it.
can u guys explain it to me? is it good upgrade for the car?

it's a mechanical thermostat therefore it opens up coolant to certain parts of the engine when triggered. if you replace it with the nismo then it will open up at a lower temperature. if it gets really cold where you are then this may not be a good upgrade for you.

I'm not sure about the coupe but the sedan thermostat open at hotter temp (180 I think?)... I bought an OEM 350Z (170F) thermostat - much cheaper than the Nismo (which isn't worth the price IMO).

The Nismo one opens up at 155F or 68C

The one you got is not necessarily just an OEM 350Z at 170F but it's the same on the 350z, G35 coupe, and 6MT G35 Sedan. The Automatic sedans have a 180F thermostat.

So if this OP has a 350z/G35/6MT Sedan then he/she already has the 170F one. The Nismo would be the next step cooler.

wasn't aware that the MT sedan used it... but knew the Z did... AT sedans, always the oddballs...

i have an 04 coupe AT
so should i go for the nismo thermostat?

if you have an '04 coupe AT then the nismo thermostat would be your only way to upgrade.

the one you currently have is the 170F one and it's the same as the 350z/G35 coupe and 6MT G35 sedan.

Keep in mind though that you need heat to get your engine up to running temperature. I really am of the belief that hitting the thermostat is probably one of the last things to do on the list. there's much more worthwhile mods out there that will pop out good power like motordyne's products or others. for $140 + shipping the thermostat really won't show you anything impressive unless you're tracking the car. My assumption is that one won't experience a ton of heatsoak unless the car is being run hard for long periods of time.

thanks for the info

well, i really like the amount of power that i am getting right now is perfect for me. The car is perfect to drive in city. I don't need too much power, but i do want to upgrade the car so that it will be even more joyful to drive the car. Do u have any suggestion? i would really appreciate
i was thinking of getting the Nismo differential and the heat soak cover with the Nismo thermo stat.
i don't need power, i just want to improve the performance of the car.

GFast forget this mod......!

What you need to do is look at the mods the rest of us have completed to
achieve smooth gains in HP for the street. So it sounds good and that extra
power is there when needed. The Nismo Thermostat isn't a great mod for the
street.......bad idea!

a stat is only gonna help if u have an efficient cooling system to beginwith. Do u have an aftermarket radiator or engine oil cooler? If not, the stat would be a poor buying choice imo.

why? aside from difficulties in colder weather and alterations in fuel economy what other "bad idea" reasons are there that you've come up with? those are the main important ones that come to mind.

Benefits of a cooling system that operates efficiently and opens up at a lower temp will only be felt at the track and not on the street imo.

Ummm. Have you taken a look at the stock radiator and compared it to a quality aftermarket one?

Way to resurrect an old thread. If you really think that buying and installing a thermostat that opens up at a lower temp. is going to help you with cooling on stock parts, you are mistaken. But hey, go ahead and buy a $45 part and install it and tell us how it helps your stock setup
