A leak from my plenum?

If there was a leak coming from my plenum would it be loud enough to notice? I did a spacer install and it sounds fine to me so far but just want to double check if there are ways of detecting a leak?

The only real way is to use a smoke machine that introduces smoke into the vacumn system to look for leaks.Do you think you have a leak or more important is the car running poorly.

you would definitely feel a big notice if you had a leak.

If you had a leak, the car would idle rough and maybe even stall.

You should be able to hear the leak if its there. Itll be a loud/high pitched sucking noise.

Last time i removed my plenum and put it back on, i just torqued to spec per the manual with a tq wrench and no leak. so, if you dont have a tq wrench, get one. Itll save you alot of time/headache if you happen to over torque a plenum bolt.

What about the sucking/whistle sound during acceleration (Its hard to tell if its from the filter)? I have the REV2/5/16 spacer and JWT PopCharger. I didn't use RTV on the spacer during the install...could it be that?

well that sucking noise is from the charger. Im guessing I don't have a leak cause its not high pitched at all and the performance seems good. Thanks

If your idle was surging, struggling or rough that is the first sign of a leak. But if your idle is good you don't have a leak.

Idle is the number one way of determining if you do or do not have a leak.

Bringing back a dead thread... i just installed my spacer, idle is fine, power seems good but between 4500 and 5200 rpms I hear a whistle(best way to describe it) when I hit the throttle. I saw no mention of this sound in other threads which is why I bring it up...

That's actually quite common and normal.

Its just a larger volume of air rushing past the throttle body plate when the throttle begins to open.

what if i'm idling at 650 and when i brake i can feel the car downshifting really rough. rpm also jumps from below 1k for each downshift and i feel the car jump forward very slightly. could that possibly be a leak? i've had the plenum spacer on for over a year combined with a popcharger and ztube. cleaned the MAF and TB also did the idle reset and ecu reset.

It could be a leak but the pop-charger can easily do that too. They are known to have issues when letting off the gas.

Also, cleaning the TB is something best left for the dealership. They are really, really sensitive units. It doesn't take much to throw them off and that too can cause the same problem.

Check for a leak at the plenum. If you don't find anything, try checking for other possibilities.

Tony
