Question Cosworth Intake Manifold vs. Plenum Spacer?

Ok Guys,

I haven't been on here for a little bit (works been beating me on a daily basis), but now I'm getting settled in for the start of the "Mod Bug" (ie. Finally going to start modding this bad boy - warranty ran out).

I've always had in mind to get the MotorDyne 5/16" Plenum Spacer but after surfing around tonight to get some ideas if there have been any improvements after all this time I've been off, I ran into this:

http://www.intensepower.com/coinmavq03.html

Any discussions I've missed on this?

Any thoughts? .02's ??

Thanks as Always,
-WoW

P.s. Sorry for not using the search button, I'll do better next time, I promise.

Cosworth vs MotorDyne......?

If were talking '05/'06 G35s I'd go with the MotorDyne spacer/lower plenum
due to the added 30 HP. Still the cost of the Cosworth intake plus having
it polished would be around $1200 including shipping......is it worth the
bucks just to be different.....and yet it only gives ya 3 extra HP over MD
on an '03/'04? Naaaaaaaaaaaa, I'll stick with what I have.....

They always sell things before they have them in stock, so you have to wait and wait and wait and wait until they actually receive the item. Then you have to wait and wait and wait for them to process and eventually ship out your item you paid for a long time ago.

You really consider these two choices evenly? With no regard to how much it costs? Ballin' bro.

But at least the Cosworth should actually work. Not like the *cough* ssv *cough* lol

Thumbs up

Whooa...Whooa, guys. slow down some, atleast for this old fart. LOL.

I appreciate all the responses and the discussions!! But, let's take one at a time:

1.) Yes, cost is not a factor for me. I'm looking for an upgrade in the plenum (for gains) and I have looked into (ie. read discussions on each <here> on this forum: SSV/MotorDyne Spacer/SKUNK2 - Most of what I read the MotorDyne spacer is the way to go for the NON-Revup motor that I have (5/16" seems to get the 'nod' over 1/2")

2.) I've looked into FI - with STILLEN stage 1 or 2, and that's still an option, but wanted to know everyones .02 on this new product.

3.) The 30+hp gain discussion (I believe) is for the REVUP engine with the lower plenum upgrade AND spacer "COMBO". That topic I don't know much about (weither it's true 30+hp gains or not) b/c I own an 2003.5

4.) Yes, you are correct when saying that 'they' always sell items that they don't have in stock *yet*, and that sucks, but I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this product and the overall benefits (gains) vs. the other NA plenum upgrades.

5.) Who said anything about getting it "Polished" LOL!!!!!!!!!!! I think as for as *apperance* the plenum looks fantastic the way it is with the CF accents!

Thanks for all the posts guys - keep them coming!

I look forward to eventually seeing (hopefully) someone get a dyno with this product - I might be waiting a long time though?

-happy to be back into the "fold"

Thanks,
-WoW

I don't think ricer math even gets that kind of number... They'd only send you 2 stickers at the most.

IMHO cosworth is a quality product, but who in their right mind would spend $1000+ for +17hp, when a 5/16" plenum spacer from motordyne will net you 13hp for $265?? Hmm...

Good point, and thus my question, b/c I'm wondering what 'true' gains this product offers (I know, I'll have to wait...) and I know, it won't ever be enough for the cost, but I also love the way it looks...so I guess you basically answered all my questions for me - (ie. sobering way to think about the product)

Thanks Guys!

Cosworth is quality and lots of R&D. They did the new GTR so thats says a lot in my book.
True life customer/Driver member Dynos would be what I would want to see first before taking the plunge on that.

MD's mrev2 + 5/16 spacer for rev-ups give this number from their web site...
Copied/Pasted:

The Motordyne MREV 2 Manifold Iso Thermal! A universal stealth mod for use on any 350Z, G35, M35 and FX 35. When used with or without a spacer or aftermarket plenum, this modified lower collector will make substantial power gains.
Multiple independent test show when used with a 5/16" spacer on the REVUP engine, the combination will add a "minimum" of 15+ HP and 18+ TQ in the upper midrange. Many independent MREV 2 Manifold REVUP tests have dynod in excess of 20HP and 30 TQ in the upper midrange and with high RPM peak power increased by 3-5 HP.
