Simple Engine Question
Ok so ive had my G for a little over 4 months now and i couldnt help but notice the engine is sounding a bit odd. When i start the car and it idles, theres a weird clinging noise like I blew a rod or something but its very subtle. I cant figure out for the life of me what it is. Hopefully its just something to do with the AC but i doubt it. Im just gonna have to bring it in to the dealer and have them look at it. Good thing i still have my engine/drivetrain warrantee
Was just wondering if any of ya'll have experienced this noise.

1. is the noise constant or does it occur randomly?
2. is the frequency of the noise tied to rpm?
3. Does the noise go away when the car is warmed up?
4. you mentioned the a/c... does the noise stop when the climate control is off?
It could just be the valves clacking a little before the oil gets up there. Could be a pully on the alternator or a/c compressor or a belt.
I don't know if you can hear the timing chain, ive never noticed mine much.

Knocking on start up and then goes away after a few seconds means your engine is about to die!! When you first start up a worn engine it may take a few seconds to pressurize the oil system. Once oil is under pressure to your bearings , etc the noise goes away.
I hope that this isn't the problem.
MOST engine rebuilds ain't worth sh*t either, don't allow a local rebuild, insist on a new long block from the factory.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have an 03 Graphite AT Coupe for those of you asking. When i turn the engine over its seems to be timed with the RPM. Its very very subtle but I just sat there "like most of you" when i first got my car and loved to listen to the engine just idle sometimes....now it makes me want to cry. Anything but normal coming from the engine compartment = bad. I think it could be because i like to throw in revs when i pass a ricer-racer on the highway who thinks he's cool. Its more than likely my fault my car is like this....Tomorrow im gonna call up the dealer and see what they think it is. The only reason i thought it couldve been the AC is because ive the AC make some really funky sounds in others cars. Like i said, my car has 35k on it and i dont think it should be making any abnormal sounds...especially around 30k when the car is finally broken-in. hmmmph. If you could post that video you took with your phone in2win it would be greatly appreciated. Ill see if i cant get a vid of mine on here....i dont know if my cam will pick the noise up since its so quiet, we'll see. Thanks alot everyone.
