Hello Folks-

I wanted to get some input to an issue that of course the dealership cannot reproduce....

I did numerous searches, but didnt quite find the right symptoms that match mine.

Anyway, i have an 03 G sedan w/ 69,300 miles. For quite a while, i get a rattling noise from engine bay on cold starts (usually in colder weather) that seems to last until the car is fully warmed up; sometimes longer. You can't hear the rattling noise in the car, but i did hear it very clearly while in a drive-thru last night with the window down. I am going to try and record the sound and attach it here. I am close to warranty and want to be sure i get this addressed, if needed, before this costs me any $ in the future.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

 

Yeah, see if you can get a sound clip. There are so many things it could be.

 

i experienced this once about 2 weeks ago when i cold-started my car after not being used to a couple of days..
but now since its my daily driver for a little while, i havent heard it..

Been a while since i posted this. I found out what was causing the annoying rattling sound. Looks like it was the belts after all. I had a buddy at my infiniti dealership replace it...no more rattles.

 

hmmmm. I put a new belt on mine, yet it still rattled on a cold start till the day I traded it. I just thought it was in the engine or flywheel or someting.

 

On the VQ motors they have VTC solenoids that usually make the sound your probably talking about a metal noise is sometimes heard from there, as well as the the top of the cams make some noise sometimes on initial start up because of the oiling process, really well known the maximas and altimas.
