M35 / M45 oil filter?

Has anyone used the M35/M45 oil filter for more surface area?

I was at the autoparts store the other day picking up a Mobil 1 oil filter and looked at an M35/45 filter. Same threads and diameter. Just slightly longer and I believe it would fit and "clear" in our G35s.

Has anyone tried this and do you know if it fits or inteferes with other items or alternatively, makes it a lot harder to remove or replace the oil filter?

Just curious, at the same price, why not have more surface area for filtration and flow.

Thanks all.

If its the one that is 1/2" longer, I use it exclusively. Its used on many other nissan applications as well

I thought it looked a longer than 1/2 inch. I think a full inch but I can go back and check on the size. What is the part number for the filter you use? What brand?

Are they the same filter (M35/45)? Which one is larger and would still fit?

M35 and M45 Filters are identical and slightly longer than ours (G35). I believe it is longer than the 1/2" stated above. Not sure which one redlude is using. I'll go measure the other one at store when time permits. Just wanted to know if Someone has used the M35/45 filter with no issues.

I'm interested as well. It's interesting to note that my 4 cylinder 2002 Lancer ES filter is larger than my G35 one...

It might be closer to 1", but I haven't looked at a normal sized filter for so long I was just trying to remember correctly. The m45 filter is the same as the one used on older nissan engines though, I use the purolator pure one pl14610 as opposed to the shorter pl14612

Redlude, I went back to the autoparts store and its about 1" longer, same dimensions otherwise including thread and port holes/number of holes.

The Mobil 1 filter for G35 is "M1-108"

And the filter on M35/45 is "M1-110" and like described above it is 1" longer with same dimensions. I purchased one tonite and will try it with my next oil change.

The M1-110 is probably the same as the "longer" Purolator one you used. I'll keep you posted when I install this one as to size or fit issues, etc...

Anyone else tried going bigger yet?

Any reasons not to install the bigger filter?

Yep, the m-110 is the right one, and the same one I'm talking about. Sorry about the added confusion with the length difference but we are talking about the same thing.

M35 has the same engine as the G35. Last I checked, both use the M1-108 filter. The M45 uses the M1-110 filter.

I alternate between both depending on which one has it in stock.

There has been much debate over if one is better than the other. The M1-110 has more surface area, but can cause a slight drop in oil pressure. The first is a fact, the latter know one has yet to confirm.

At the end of the day, use whichever filter you are more comfortable with.

PS: I have an APS oil pan, which adds about 1 qt capacity. Even than, I'm more than comfortable sticking with the M1-108 filter.

How would it drop the oil pressure if it has more surface area and hence less restriction?
