Replacement taking more than 2hrs tends to fall into the intermediate skillset IMO. I don't know how handy your are, but just realistically plan the project (a pro with proper tools estimating 3-4hr will equates to you taking x hrs to complete).
yes the dealership quoted me at about $800 with 3.8 hours of labor, but THEIR alternator is $400+. for a stock alternator, although i found an after market by contour for $150 with a 62 core refund. SO makes it $90.

It looks liek it's not really the alternator that's hard to get out, it's just that you have to remove a bunch of other stuff to get to it. It still doesn't look like 3 hours worth. Here is what the manual says...

A/T MODELS
Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Remove engine undercover, using power tools.
3. Remove stabilizer clamps. Refer toFSU-6, "FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY" in “FRONT SUSPENSION
(FSU)” section.
4. Slide stabilizer downward.
5. Remove alternator, power steering pump and fan belt. Refer to
EM-15, "Removal and Installation" in “ENGINE MECHANICAL
(EM)” section.
6. Disconnect alternator connector.
7. Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector.
8. Remove B terminal nut.
9. Remove alternator upper bolt and lower bolt, using power tools.
10. Remove alternator stay bolt using power tools.
11. Remove alternator assembly to the direction of under side the
vehicle.

also, take out the oil filter and oil cooler, its makes dropping the alternator easier
disconnect/ connect the wires with the alternator unbolted, it makes it alot easier.
