First of all, I'm sure you can find that answer on the internet with something called the(not sure why I have to tell someone with over 4k posts this):
To answer your title question, NO, BMW 5w-30 is not the same thing as Castrol tw-30 Syntec.
AFAIK:
The BMW 5w30 was made specifically FOR BMW, especially for the e39 M5 and e52 Z8, which had an excessive oil consumption problem similar to ours due to the way the piston rings were designed. The BMW 5w30 also has a slightly different viscosity (at OPERATING temps, not 100 degrees) than the regular US Castrol 5w30 even though they both have the same rating of 5w30. Not to mention the Syntec is 5w30 SAE rated while the BMW oil is 5w30 ACEA rated(if I remember correctly) so the BMW oil is likely going to be more viscuous, like a 5w40. If you put that oil in your car one time you will not see any noticeable difference, but I still wouldn't recommend it. Why the hell are you putting BMW oil in your Infiniti? Just get some Mobil 1. Some people are just stupid.
