I am considering getting my ECU reflashed, and should I ever want to return to the stock ECU setup, I wouldn't want to reflash my modified ECU to stock, because this would be a total waste of money.

Does anyone know if there are any problems with taking an ECU from a similar car in a junkyard or something? Is it basically plug and play?

It's not plug/play due to the many variations and the theft control.

Plus many makers have 1-2-3 reflashes that you can choose from any any time

 

If you can find someone with an uprev osiris, you can have both maps on your ecu at the same time. You could even sell the car off flashed but everytime the car starts it will be the stock feul map. Do a search for Uprev Osiris.

 

Ive read the our ecu's are coded for each particular car. The code can be changed to match your car and to work but its cost by the dealership outways just having your own ecu reflashed or a piggyback added. This has been discussed on the forum, search.

 

OP - if your goal is to be able to run stock configuration at some point (for instance you sell all you breather mods), then I'd suggest Osiris with one map for stock setup... if you are thinking of selling your tuned ECU when you sell the car - and want a stock ECU for the cars re-sell, I think you should reconsider...

Definitely not to sell the ECU if I sell the car... Osiris sounds like the way I'm going to go, although it's about 1.5 times more expensive than the AAM reflash. However, that wouldn't give me the option of stock setup, a 100 octane track program, etc. It certainly sounds like Osiris would be the best way for me to go.

 

yep. Osiris is very versatile that way... I have econo (for low octane if desired), performance on 91 octane (that the highest pump gas we get in CA), and performance for race gas - in addition to valet and two step launch rev limiter for the track... Osiris is a good choice.

 

We can get 100 octane at certain stations in CA you just have to search and ask around, its $5 a gallon but

 

Typically 91 is the highest... I get 105 when I go to the track... I don't go out of my way for high octane (I rarely drive the car, it's not my DD)...

For a normal daily driver, 91 is what the vast majority have available - and I doubt many people would use 100 for daily driving (even if it was on the corner station)...

 

Don't know what the hell some of you guys are talking about, but you can switch out your ECU no problem. Just make sure you sync the BCM and reprogram the keys...anyone that can program car keys can do it for cheap...don't waste your money on the dealer

 

Interesting... how would one go about synchronizing the BCM? Other than that, all I'd have to do is program the keys to the other ECU?

 

Yeah...the guy that programmed my keys did the BCM too. Can't tell you what he did exactly, but it was quick and cheap.

 

Was a chain store that you got it done at? Name? I have a spare key I bought on ebay I need cut/programmed

UpRev can reprogram a second ECU to match your current G35. It needs to be the same model ECU.

They did it for me.
