Re: ECU Reset - Dyno Results

I'd imagine that your car would have more power before a reset unless you were resetting for some mods you added. At least that is what happened on my WRX with a stock ECU , you would lose power after a reset and it would take about 200 miles before it felt like it was back.

WRX guys were resetting their ECUs all the time because they were using piggy-back computers that would eventually cause the car too lose power as the stock ECU learned around the mappings in the piggy-back. Do a reset and blamo...more power becuase the timing and fuel changes are all piggy-back. Two weeks later, down to stock ECU power since it learned around it...reset and the cycle starts again...

This was even mentioned in a Sport Compact review of the Vishnu Stage Zero kit which uses a piggyback ECU. The dyno showed a drop in 10 HP after the reset.

Hope that's not too confusing...

Umm, not the case? Maybe I'm not reading those dynosheets properly but to me the curve for the pre-reset run looks better than the curve for the post-reset run.

You analysis does make sense. If i understand correctly, the only time you should reset the ECU is new mods?

If you are a xyz company that come out with a turbo, would this data significantly be important to you?

Re: ECU Reset - Dyno Results

Everytime I have done the ecu reset lately, my car feels weak for a while, then it gets really strong again. I personally think the ecu reset isn't a good idea unless you have some new mods installed and let the ecu relearn everything again.

Re: ECU Reset - Dyno Results

It may be possible the car became stronger after a reset but I've seen so many instances where people dyno their car 5 times in a row and get that range of results you got without doing anything to the car.

Re: ECU Reset - Dyno Results

I did the ECU reset disconnected the bat for 24 hours after my Borla TDE and Hyper Grounding Kit install. I never did it after the ZTube and Pop charger install. Should I do it? I'm going away on a business trip for a few days so I won't need the car. Yall think it will make a dif? I've been driving the car with the pop charger for over a week now. Has the ECU already learned what it needs to?

Re: ECU Reset - Dyno Results

On my 6MT coupe, I installed a Borla and cats at the same time--I did not reset the ECU. At first, the car ran slightly worse and had noticeably less power. After 100 miles of light-medium driving (in terms of aggressivenes with the throttle), I began to notice power gains over the stock setup. After maybe 150 miles it smoothed out and ran great!
