Re: Hood Support Mod?

The S2000 also has an aluminum hood. I don't know what kind of support it has.

Re: Hood Support Mod?

This goes back to the dealer telling me it is aluminum. Infiniti claims that if you try to support the hood only from the back using gas struts or whatever that the hood will not be able to support itself. They claim you need the rod there so the hood has support in the front.

Re: Hood Support Mod?

That depends on how the struts are mounted.
I would think that 2 struts would be better than 1 rod.
It would be evenly supported with less twisting.

This was one mod I was really interested in.

Re: Hood Support Mod?

Whoever said that the hydraulic lift would not work with aluminum is hogwash. It's just some dumb reply from the dealer because they can't think of any excuse for it. Is the I35 supported by hydraulic? If it is, then we may have an answer, otherwise, it would not be easy to mod this successfully.

Re: Hood Support Mod?

The folks who think this hood is heavy are nuts - compared to my passat that think is tin. When you drop a g hood it sounds hollow (its AL so it should) The passat sounded like a truck door shutting and weighed 2.5 - 3 times as much.

Re: Hood Support Mod?

Guys, the 350z guys have done it. A guy designed one to fit and have been selling them. I asked him about our car and sell me one so I can make it fit, but he refused due to the fact he wants to check it himself. I haven't heard a thing since then and it was over 2-3 months ago.

Re: Hood Support Mod?

the hood is aluminum alright. its light. perhaps you just need to work out if its feeling a bit heavy. another car with alum hood is the M3. anybody know what it uses for support?

Re: Hood Support Mod?

really depends on how thick the al. is, and how reinforced the double liner of it is...... the Z hood is shorter 9and thereby lighter) than our coffin-nose of a hood, i think......

im still listening though........
