Does the G really need Premium Fuel
#32
altima coupe ? that was random...lol did you think you were posting in a different thread ?
What I want to know out of curiosity not that it really makes any difference is how much difference is there in performance from regular to premium other than better gas mileage.
will my G actually run a faster 1/4 mile with premium vs regular ?

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...s/engines.html which contradicts your statement, but I guess we wouldn't know w/o a dyno run

Engines tuned for 87 do not gain power with higher octane fuel.
Engines tuned for higher octane gasolines will either lose power on lower octane, or not run properly (depends on the engine)
The G does not REQUIRE premium, but you WILL lose power AND fuel economy.
91 octane is recommended for maximum economy and performance. Using anything higher is just a waste of money.... like putting 89 or higher in a (non-si) civic

The VQ engine has been optimized for different autos by tuning the compression - generally increasing as the years go by. The 03-06 6MT and coupe are tuned at a higher compression, get around 298 HP, are REQUIRE 91 AKI or better or you will damage them. They will run on 87 - but not well. The 03-06 auto making 280 HP has a lower compression and can run on 87 AKI. Nissan recommends 91 or better. The auto is tuned for 91, but the ECU will adjust (retard timing) if knocking is sensed. Using an AKI rating higher than recommended will not hurt the engine. Again, the ECU will attempt to maximized performance and will have an easier job with the high octane gas.
