OBDII Code P0340

I went to autozone today because of a check engine light and they told me I have a code. P0340.
The definition describes "Cam sensor position"
Explanation "The camshaft position sensor signal is monitored for errors.
Probable causes:
1) Cam sensor defective
2) Check connector and wiring to sensor
3) Engine mechanical condition timing belt/chain out of time.

---Have any of you had this happen to you. Anyone change one of these sensors, I heard it's a PITA.
--- How accurate is autozones diagnostic check??
I'm so pissed somethings wrong with the G..

Here you go. Possible causes include: grounding wires, CMP sensor, Intake camshaft. I think you're looking at the dealer to find this one.

That happened to me too and my mechanic replaced my cam sensor. The car runs much better now. I don't believe it is that hard to change it.

Hey guys I have the same problem with the camshaft position sensor and I beleive that there is a recall on the 03's on this sensor so if you brought it to the dealer they shouldnt be able to charge you for the replacement.

Not necessarily true. I just corrected this problem last week on my car, and I tried speaking multiple times with Infiniti directly, the dealers, and still had to pay for it. You're looking at almost $300 in parts and labor for this. And that's besides what other things the dealer will mention you need replaced when you're there.

You should still try calling Infiniti or going on the NHTSA website to see if your vehicle VIN is part of the 630,000 car recall.. I'm surprised mine wasn't.

I have posted some informational links on this forum (see end of page):

Good luck!

I went to the dealer after I ran the diagnostic with the autozone diagnostic tool and found out it was the camshaft sensor with the code that came up.

I went online and found out that '2003 G35' had a recall, but there's no specification of what VINs fall under that category.
I then went to the dealer expecting a free replacement, but he hit me with a $105 'diagnostic fee. The Tysons VA Infiniti dealer was going to charge me $605 to replace both of them and I told him to eat a d*%k. Went next door to Nissan and they had both camshaft sensors for $120. I'm going to install them myself and see how it goes. I'll give you all an update.

So far total cost to fix this: $100 diagnostic fee from dealer, $120 camshaft sensors. TOTAL: $250. SAVED $400

Telling the dealer to eat a d*%k....priceless

Nice, got both camshaft position sensors and did the install myself. It cost $60 each from Nissan next door. Replaced them and re-set the car's comuter using obdc-II...works like new, but it was sort of a pain to get to the old sensors...2 hour job max.

I had the same problem, and I went to the dealership in Alexandria VA and it was replace for free. I have an 2003.5 with 60000 miles... the dealership was good to me.... everything for free, plus a loaner and free coke.

Does the crankshaft sensor located on the back of the block by the fire wall or is it in the front by the timing chain?

I just had the P0340 code pop up and need to get this resolved quick before the car starts stalling out while i'm driving.
