Car "dies" at low speeds, just after servicing!!

Hi guys,

I have a 2003 G35 Coupe Auto and I just did my 45K mile servicing at LubExpress this saturday.
It ran fine on Saturday, but on Sunday, the car just died as I was slowing down towards a traffic light!!
It did the same thing today as I was slowing down towards a turn!!

When I say "dies", the lights etc. are all on, but just the engine's shut off. I dont have a list of "things" that they did to my car, at the moment, for servicing, but it was just the usual stuff: checking battery, fluids, brakes, etc. I have done NO mods to the car whatsover.

I've gone through the forums and apparently it could be any one of these:
  • Loose Battery Cables
  • MAF Sensor
  • Fuel Pump
  • Throttle body
  • Air filter?

I am planning on taking it back to the same guys today, but I don't know if these guys are that skilled to handle something more complex. Looking for some advice from the experts here..

Thanks!

you need to get a list of what they did. i doubt they will help you as you signed for the repairs and left.

good luck and report back with the detailed list.

I just went back to those guys, and they couldn't find what the problem was (no surprise). The only thing the guy did was to unplug the MAF cable and plug it back in.

Anyway, these are the things they did:
  • Coolant Exchange
  • Power Steering Fluid Exchange
  • Injector Cleaning Service
  • Synthetic oil (change)
  • Oil filter

Any ideas?? I am hoping someone can provide a clue - none of this happened before the service.

I am not big on stealerships, but i'm reconsidering my decision..

sound to me like a very dirty throttle body. Clean that out and it should resolve the issue.

all i can say is HAA lube express. but seriously tough it could be a bunch of things.if the injector service cleaning involved them unpluging a vaccum line maybe its still off? they put too much oil and its foaming down the line messin wit cam timing? i wonder wat made them touch the MAF.. if the sensor is bad it can be killin the motor when it tries to return to idle. altough youd have to see how exactly the "injector service" was ran , was it dumped trough a vac line or trough intake tubing.. i highly doubt they use the types where u actually pull the fuel line out so GL as far as the "stealership" goes if you got a serious prob they are sumtime the only 1s that can fix it

Hmm.. but too much of a coincidence just the day after a servicing??

I agree that I need to get the throttle body checked up. Too many people on this forum have experienced this. My question is, does it get this dirty at <45K miles?

Is there an 'Idiots Guide to cleaning throttle bodies'?

Thanks guys

u posted same time as me lol as far as the throttle goes i would consider that part of the EFI service they sold you... altough they might not.. cleaning the TB on these cars isnt always a great idea the best way ive found is to do it with electrical cleaner and not carb cleaner. use a screw driver to hold the plate open and dont move it if you dont have to the less you open and close it your self the less risk for trouble.

NismoG35S,

I'm pretty sure they dumped through a vac line. Although I couldn't see properly as they ask you to sit in your car while they do their crap job

Guys,

Today I had some new issues pop up. I had a rough start this morning, then the VDC and the SLIP and the Check Engine light came on..

So I went back to the same mechanic (last attempt) .. and the error came up as the Camshaft Position Sensor.

I am hoping to find some answers on this forum, with search and your knowledge. I am guessing I will have to take it to the dealers tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help

I just found this info:
http://www.automallusa.net/2003/infi...5/recalls.html

and this:
http://www.automotiveresources.net/r...all-28827.html

I called up the Infiniti Dealer and they can't seem to locate this recall?!? Said they'll look at it for $105/hour. This is bull****! I nearly hit a car on my way home today

maybe your not in the vin range or the recall has been pulled after the amount of time that has passed depends on the type of recall tough. either way the cam sensor is cake to replace. and they arnt that expensive

Just to update anyone's who's interested, the problem turned out to be the Camshaft Position Sensor. Ofcourse, the dealers mentioned that I needed belts too.. which I was too tired to argue.

Total cost: $450.

Thanks for everyone who helped.
