anbody hear this sound...

I'm getting this loud squeeky sound kinda like a loose bearing from the engine bay when the car is cold and the a/c is on. I thought it was the fans but I unplugged them and the sound is still there. The sound eventually goes away once the car is warmed up. Can a loose belt make a sound like that??

my best guess would be a tensioner or idler pulley on the serpentine.... do our cars have a typical tensioner or idler pulley? Hell I dunno. Maybe its your a/c compressor bearings or clutch going south?

The timing chain has an oil pressure activated tensioner I believe, at least they used it on the 3.0L engine. If the oil line to it gets clogged or oil blows by it's seal, it doesn't have enough pressure to keep the timing chain tight and it may rub on the timing cover. You can pinpoint the location of the noise by use of mechanic's stethoscope.

Are you still under warranty? That is something I would take in ASAP.

It might be the VDC system doing a self check. I read in the manual that this can sometimes be heard.

i am actually getting the same sound in my 3rd day of my G. seems like the cooler belt (a/C is making it). Do you think the warranty (engine+transmission) covers it? thx ..

p.s: if i have time, i ll record and upload the sound..

Mr.GEE,
I think I have the same problem. I noticed my oil pressure sensor light turned on and then I heard some clicking noise come from my engine (seems like my timing chain is hitting something). I checked my oil level and it is fine.
Is this an easy fix if I take it to Infiniti or something that I should just wait for couple of days?

I just installed a 350z midpipe on my 03 sedan as well.

I have this noise as well. Sounds like chains lightly dragging on the ground or something. I notice it more with the A/C on.

That noise is annoying the hell out of me. I am taking it to Infiniti and see what they have to say. I hope it did not result from my midpipe installation.

Did yours go away ?

^my 05 sedan sound nothing like that. Mines has a very light metallic sound that's barley audible.
