How much engine ping is considered normal?

I have a 2005 AT Sedan with 38K that pings under load. The pinging is most prevalent in 2nd/3rd gear between 2500-3000 rpms. I rarely take the car over 3000 rpms in normal driving, so the pinging could extend past 3000 rpms.
Pinging becomes worse as the air and engine temperatures increase. This is not a new problem, engine has been pinging for a extended period of time. Oil level is always good. I always use 93 octane fuel, but pinging may get worse with different brands of fuel.

I have read past threads on the subject, but cannot find a definite solution to the problem. I understand that engine ping is not good under any circumstances, but how much engine ping does Infiniti consider to be normal with these engines? I hope to go the dealer in the next few weeks for this issue. I will have no problem replicating the pinging with the dealer, but I have a feeling the pinging will be considered normal.

I would think after it pinged once or twice that the knock sensor would 'see' that and pull some timing so that it wouldn't do that anymore.

What fuel are you using? Do you use any fuel additives? Have you checked for engine error codes? Do you have any modifications on your engine?

I only use 93 octane. No fuel additives or mods. I have not checked engine codes.

i have the exact same problem as you have described. during one of my dealer services they "corrected" the problem by fiddling with the timing, but I noticed the problem return within a few days. i'm not really sure what the solution is...

pinging on a NA car is not normal. It's not safe on a FI car either

it will also mess with and can partially close your spark plug gaps which will make it run even worse.

no pinging is acceptable that's bad and not normal at all on any car or set up. Bad gas and / or high heat could be to blame also.

I'm wondering (no not wandering, but I'd like to) if you go a bad tank of gas. Put in a can of SeaFoam and see if it helps.
