Car starts, but shuts off, unless gas is applied

Hello, I have 04 5AT coupe. I had just isntalled a new battery, i believe it is 750 amps. My car is about 4.5 years old and I bought it used. THe car did not start and made clicking noises, i foudn it was the battery and replaced it. I had trouble replacing the battery because of hte tight space.

I had somewhat of a success installing hte new battery.

it was hard because of all the clutter and weight of the battery.

The car now starts.

THE PROBLEM is that when it starts, it turns off. In a normal start, you can hear it go grmmmm to a 2.0 RPM(i think) then transition and settile to a a .7(i think) rpm and softly purr. My car starts up normal initially. For Testing sakes, I turn it off and turn it on Again(restart). When i restart it for the 4th time or after I have driven it, it does not do a normal start. Instead it goes grmmmmm to 2.0 rpm like usual, but transitions to 0 rpm and does not do the soft purring and basically shuts down.

Sometimes when i start it, it goes up to 2.0 RPM like usual then makes very very soft noise and almost seems to shut off and drop to 0 RPM but manages to softly purr and come back up to .7 RPM

Now, To overcome this, I simply tap the accelerator and mock the gentle purr. This keeps my car started. I will not use it for driving because im afraid it may shutdown on me while driving or not start at all. But i did test it and it runs aroudn the neighborhood fine.

How can I fix this? Can this have something to do with a dirty fuel injector? I remember the JIFFY LUBE lady saying mine needs cleaning. I thought she was BSing for the money. Maybe i may have messed up the electical components while change battery, such as the fuse box or the positive power cable (both had plasitc components and came in the way while changing battery).

My car is about 4.5 years old, maybe it needs other basic maintainence to keep it runing? (for example my batter had just died, maybe something else needs to be replaced) I remember reading somehting in the infiniti manual about the 4 year maintainence.

To summarize, how do i fix this? or can only a dealer help. Maybe i can increase my IDLE start up power so it starts with higher RPM?

Let me know and Thanks

This happens to me when I did certain changes to the car. Changing the battery was one of them. Changing my clutch and flywheel and getting my ECU reflashed were others. It should go away.

This happens because you have to do the Idle Volume Air Re-learning procedure since you changed out the battery. Same exact thing happened to me, once I did that procedure, the problem went away. PM me and I will send you instruction on how to do so. Or you could also do a search if you'd like.

it could be your (MAF) mass air flow sensors

This didn't just go away for me, problem stayed for almost a month until I decided to do some searching on this forum and ran into the idle volume air learning process.
