low pitch engine noise

Hey guys, I'll see if I can describe this accurately for you guys and maybe you know what it is...

I have an 04 G35 Sedan (84k miles) and this noise just started the other day. Here's what I know..

It's a low pitch noise and seems to be coming from the passenger side when I'm sitting in the drivers seat. It's a low pitch, and the frequency stays with the RPM. It almost sounds like there's a motorcyle in traffic somewhere, but it's not loud.

It's most noticable at idle and up to 2k RPM or so and doesn't go away if I turn off the AC or put the car in park or neutral. I've actually found that if I'm at 2k rpm, then let off the gas, as the rpm drops there's a moment of silence where the noise isn't there and then it comes back.

Should be a fun riddle... what do you think it could be?

Thanks!

I have the same thing it turned out to be the Fuel pulsation dapener. I have the parts down stars and have not changed them yet. I will be doing it tonight. I guess its a common problem on the cars.

Well I replaced one of the two Fuel dapners tonight (the one on the pass side) and the noise is gone. The one on the passenger side is the one that hooks to the feed line from the tank.

I did not reolise just how loud it was getting once I changed it I had a hard time telling the engine was running. The part number of the one on the pass side is 22675-AM60BThat is the one I replaced and fixed the problem. The other one that I got for the other side is 22675-5Y76A I have not replaced this one and will be taking it back.

Good luck and I hope I have helped some.

EDIT:sorry I transposed the part numbers I have corrected it.

Thanks for the info. Can you give a description of the noise in your own words, I'd like to get a better idea if we're talking about the same thing before I take the $$ plunge.

The noise is a very low engine sound right behind the pass side dash/glove box area. Its not Audible out side the car. The sound would change with the engine RPM up till about 2000rpm at which point the engine nose would overwhelm the lower sound. Turning on and off the A/C would not changed it other than the change with the idle speed. When I popped my hood and put my head under it on the pass side I would hear it faintly. The sound progressively got louder over time (months). I also always make sure my Oil is toped up and new that was not an option.

If you are worried about it take it into Infiniti and have them diagnose it. If the car is still under warrantee get hem to fix it. If not take the diagnosis and if it’s the same as mine get the parts and do the fix.

Good Luck!

Let us know how it goes,

Jeremy
