^raced a 4rth generation about a year ago. Back then i only had exhaust and intake manifold and a passenger in the car. The guy asked me to run him i was like fvck it why not. I he was right next to me till 70 mph and then after that i slowly started gaining on him. Back then i had no clue those things can be that fast. When i stopped he asked me wtf i had, and im like no! wtf do u have? LOL he said he had every bolt on on stock motor + 5MT. It was the most surprising race i had had back then untill i raced OCG35 for the first time. And that bastard surprised me even more.

rediculous statement. the Maximas you speak of will have every bolton available as well as a likely heart transplant. add that to weight reduction and slicks, and you are talking about a vastly different car then what drove off the showroom floor.

we are talking about essentially stock G sedans on street tires. apples and oranges.

what less "embarrasing" times do you see out of your '04 6mt? it looks similar to mine, so i would be shocked if you were in the 13's. i believe low 14's are what most people are running at best...

getting off the line was my problem - i had slippage/axle hop through 1st gear, and occasionally in to 2nd. this was the first time with the G at a strip so my expectations weren't high.

Yeha it was my first and last time out in the G35 I just wanted to see what it will do. I have another car that is my toy so the g35 is just a commuter and DD.

When I was there is quite a bit cooler and that maybe were the time diffrence is (16-20c).

In my 14.1 run I did a 2.1 60ft, my best of the day was a 1.98 60ft but bad spin in 2nd made the run a 14.3x. Best MPH of the night was 101on a run with a bad launch. With more time in the car, I'm sure as it sits there is easy high 13's in it. Again the only mods on my car is a K&N drop in and a Z tube, no exhaust work and 140k kms.

The car is quite east ot get off the line fast if you do not blow the tires off.

I'm sure with work and some mods the cars have 12's in them but its a lot of work and in the end I did not get this car as a race car.

canucklehead: try going back in the fall when the track temp and air temp are lower, I'm sure with your mods and practice you will knock off a 14.0-13.8.

The 4th gen I saw had a VQ30DEK and it didn't have a VQ35 swap. Only boltons. Maybe I'll dig up the video.

I had a 4th gen 5speed Maxima and I miss it...

I am a bit puzzled. Are the road tests in Car & Driver trustworthy? They found 14.0 and 100 mph in the heavier G35x (5AT, of course).

There's only one 4th gen I know of with the VQ30DEK setup running 12s and he's the guy up in Canada that I was refering to earlier. If it's the car I'm thinking of, he has a lot of work in it (cams, head work, DEK manifold swap, standalone ECU, weight reduction, I/H/E, slicks). I believe that with the cams, his VQ30 revs out to around 8000rpms hence the reason he's wrecked a couple motors in the process. Plus he runs at the quick track in Canada where I'm convinced the air is 10% nitrous because cars up there turn seriously good times up there.

The times the 4th Maximas can pull are seriously impressive. But to get into the sub 13.5 second range requires a lot of work (motor and chassis) and usually an engine swap which 99% of us aren't willing to do. I spent 6 years of my life on Maxima.org (Jeff can attest to that) and I know those cars pretty dang well and what they're capable of.

If you want to talk about potential, the VQ30 is where it's at with a turbo. Those cars are damn impressive with turbos and those motors can take SO much more power than the VQ35. If you want to do a G/Z turbo, you should swap in the VQ30 block because that motor can handle 400whp/400wtq reliabily with absolutely no work done to the motor. There are turbo VQ30s running 350-400whp with the stock injectors! This is a motor that makes 170whp stock.

But that's the 2nd gen G with the VQ35HR. The quickest 1st gen G35X I've seen tested was a 14.4@96mph by C&D.

+1. I think they made 3 special 04.5 Xs 6MTs for Mexico.
He has one of them.

The majority of us like to run based on what the car will do on the street.

I crack up when I read about what guys do to lower their ET on the track... then I think to myself *I can still beat you to the freeway onramp
I take issue with that last statement

When I first started going to the track, I left all the gear in the car. Then I started trying to get the lower ET. And tried, and tried, and tried...

After a while, you start doing small things to shave off hundredths from your ET. I don't run on the street, so what do I care if I'm in street trim or not? Plus it would be kind of silly for me to drive on my DR's all the time...

However, I will say that I still haven't tried major weight savings. I'll try to ride in with little gas, and I'll take all the stuff out of my trunk(mat, spare), but that's it. I still haven't figured out how to remove the jack.

And really, I've tried to be modest about my time. And I know it sucks for you guys out west, but to be honest I'm sick of reading about it. You don't see me moaning that I can't run up at Englishtown or up in MD.
