1/4 Mile Performance

I've been looking at some of your guys sigs and notice a few people are running in the mid 13's with bolt ons. Is this realistic with a 5AT sedan? I've just recently installed a Z Tube/K&N drop in (leave the oiled vs. dry filter discussion in another thread....) and am searching for a coupe mid pipe. I'm debating on keeping the factory muffler as I want a slightly more aggresive tone without the excessive noise of a cat back. Does a catback really add that much more performance? I've heard mixed opinions on the plenum spacers as some of you swear by them while others think they offer little to no performance increase. What mods should I go for to drastically decrease the cars 1/4 mile time. A stock 5AT sedan runs high 14's right? Don't be afraid to mention anything I missed.

A Z-tube with a coupe midpipe won't do anything for your times, only add some sound to your car.
For real performance difference you need at least the plenum spacer and a good catback system, like the Stillen. Besides these two, these cars are pretty much maxed out. Maybe a bit on the tuning and that's about it. The headers are good straight from the factory.
Focus on these three.

for 5AT cars final drive change is the most dramatic difference in 1/4 mile time. If there is s certain track that u run mid 14 1/4 mile, by going 3.7 final drive or even 3.9 will get as fast or even faster than stock 6mt times or very low 14 seconds

To answer ur question: yes it is possible to run mid 13 1/4 mile with 5AT, u need all the breather mods tune and final drive to achieve that. Good luck and be ready to spend money.

I wish people would stop comparing ¼ mile times and dyno numbers…

A car that runs high 13s on one track might run 14s on another…

Just like a car that dynos 280 on one machine, might dyno 260 on another…

If you see an NA sedan running 13s, I guarantee its in cold weather and at very low altitude (or the ET is bogus and the time slip is from a different car).

No NA sedan has run 13s in So Cal – not because they aren’t high 13 second cars (we have some fast sedans), its because we have sh!tty tracks with high elevation and very few days of cold weather…

So next time you see a post or sig with 13.xx don’t bother comparing unless he did it at your track.

That should change on my next trip.

All of that is a given, but comparing track times between mods on the same car and track is a good way to measure gains. I think I'll stick to Z Tube, coupe mid pipe, and a 5/16 or 1/2 plenum spacer for now. Is the grounding kit beneficial to the 5AT? I've always thought of them as being ricey, but people seem to like them on these forums. Is there any ECU reflash that posts significant gains? People don't seem to talk about them much so I'm guessing not.

People dont talk about ECU reflashes? hahah thats all i see posted here.. hahaha... well you should head over to the FI section... more talk over there... but the reason ppl dont talk about em along w/ NA in the same breath is b/c... if you are spending close to a 1000 on tune etc... why not save up n wait for the big jump to FI... a lot of ppl wont justify spending a 1000 on a tune when they see only 5-10 HP gains ... but if you wanna hit mid 13's you better not be wallet shy

ground wires help a bit... there are TONS of threads and posts regarding ECU reflash... I’ve used Technosquare and currently have Osiris - would highly recommend either without a doubt... search the tech forums under tuning on Driver and my350Z.com for boatloads of info.

with substantial breather mods a tune is essential... many of us have seen significant gains.
