My coupe is coming in 6/11/04 tentatively any first mods I should be looking at? I don't plan on modding until after break in period (1000miles?). I plan to spend anywhere up to $500 for my first mods, what do you think it should be?

 

Kinetix or Crawford plenum and Z-tube.

i second that notion. after hearin the crawford i want one. the sound is unbelieveable. you might want to wait on the kinetix cause some are cracking, yes there is a second version out that is supposed to be fixed, but you still might want to wait to see if it happens again.

I agree, and maybe if you could spare another 110 bucks or so you could also get the JWT popcharger along with the Z tube and Plenum.

 

IMHO, for the most bang for the buck mods, z tube, jwt p/c, and a pair of high flow cats of your choice.

Surprised that no one metioned the Unorthodox Racing Underdrive crank pulley!! I have the Kinetix and I noticed more of an increase with the pulley than with the kinetix!!!

I have both as well and they both rock. The two comined are amazing and the plenum sure goes nicely with a CAI. More room for air plus more air are helpful to my HP increase I can attest. Then if you get bored get a grounding kit. It will smoothout the roughness these mods will create at idle and for tooling around it will make the tranny smoother and more BMW like.

I just really started the modding of my coupe (the newness finally wore off), but I kinda have a system for the mods that I want to perform - in order (so I can gauge where each stands and see how I want to move on from there):

1) Pro-1 Intake - already installed - ~$100 (paid $35 + z-tube for mine) - awesome sounds, probably picked up a few HP up high, sound worth it alone...

2) Helix Test Pipes - ordered - $180 (more of a gain than any exhaust system - 8-12 HP - cheap enough so that if I don't like the sound I can sell them and not be at a huge loss)

3) Kinetix Plenum - next on list - $395 (like the idea of a plastic intake to keep underhood temps down, proven HP gains, awesome sounds)

4) UR Crank Pulley - in a month & a half or so - $230 w/ belts (another proven performer, 6-8 HP and quicker revs are a no brainer)

5) Hyper Ground Kit - undecided - more for looks than anything - proven to aid in smoothness, but HP gains will be minimal... can find quality kits for under $100

Hope this helps some, there are a few other things that I have on my list but left out since I was keeping in mind the $500 limit you set... good luck and any of these mods will definitely make you happy!

 

Crawford Plenum, "Z" Tube and POPCharger. Do all those things, and you're intake side will be finished. When you get ready you can then concentrate on the exhaust side.

first mod no doubt should be a clear bra. depends on pricing in your area but that may take up your entire $500 or even more.

next up, tint $160 or so.

then you gotta get a good radar detector and/or laser jammer, depends what your authorities use.

after all that it's time for some speed mods, first up should be 350Z tube. cheapest mod out there and it'll make your car sound killer.

 

Gurgen, why are you staying away from the UR pulley? Anything we should know about?

There has been a lot of controversy about them. Especially as i am going FI, those 8 hp will not be felt when I have 380-400 hp at the wheels

There's been some research done saying that UD/lightweight/etc pulleys can actually harm your engine over time. In a nutshell, if they're not perfectly balanced, they can cause very small vibrations in the crank. This can screw your up engine over time. This is just someone's research, not a hard-proven fact. I used to have the link to the report, but I can't find it now...
