Hey klubbheads I got a 05 G coupe. Stillen intake, ztube, 1/2 spacer, MREV2, HKS exhaust and soon to be Res test pipes. What recommendation do you have gearing wise. I do plan on going boost in the near future if that will calculate in the determination of gears

If you're not 100% certain, get the 4.083 gears and also make sure to get a tune, especially with your modifications.
AT = 3.692 (3.7) final drive gear ratio, anything shorter (3.9, 4.0) is a waste since wee only have 5 speeds.
MT = 3.9 or 4.0...
3.692 and 4.08 are Nissan OEM ring and pinion sets so I would recommend them - they are much cheaper
And yes, shorter FD is a very worthwhile mod! Obviously it doesn’t add power – but will give better acceleration than any bolt on.

ok another question..
the gears make acceleration better.. so does that mean that top speed is reduced?? if so by how much?
cuz ive seen a Z go 183, then 2 weeks later go 204.. and im not lookn to go over 150 alot.. but i wouldnt mind being able to go as fast as possible either..

If you want zippy street acceleration, quick 1/8 and Ľ mile runs and fast exist speeds out of corners in road racing or auto crossing, shorter gears are the way to go.
I don’t see how there would be a need to go past 100-120 very often – but if so, shorter FD is not for you.
*Edit - this isnt to imply that you are maxed out at 120mph with 3.7, 3.9 or 4.0 gears... the fastest I've taken the G is 140 but that was with 3.3 - I dont know what the top speed without hitting rev limiter is with the shorter gears, but the rpm are about 200-300 higher accross the entire range - 3.9 and 4.0 would be even higher.
I am really interested in the final drive now. How will this be for everyday driving though?
Is it going to be noticeable just putting around town and what will it do to gas mileage? Seems like if every shift is resetiing at higher RPM it would burn more gas.

mpg does suffer a bit. If you drive a lot and need to keep mpg high, you may not want to swap gears... if you do a lot of fwy driving it might not be too bad... I don’t drive the car every day and when I do its all very spirited driving and mostly street - I get 15-16mpg (don’t let that freak you out though because even with 3.3 daily driven with lots of fwy miles I only got 18mpg.
I almost always run in performance map from Osiris tune - it’s a real aggressive tune... I guess if I used econo mode and drove mellow I'd see better mpg.
Many G have done FD upgrade... I'm not the best example to base mpg on since my driving routine with the G isn’t like most ppl. If you search around you can probably find better and more consistent avg mpg...
Also, for anyone considering upgrading LSD (or in the case of AT just plain adding LSD) you might want to plan to do FD and LSD at the same time since the pumpkin is already open… with the quicker acceleration LSD helps around spirited cornering… VDC isn’t nearly as obtrusive (even when left on)…

If you’re only interested in engine mods – all the typical stuff that has been mentioned countless of times – intake, exhaust, plenum spacer, high flow cats or test pipes – I have Throttle Body Spacer (which is highly debated, but mostly form ppl that haven’t used this particular design)… if you want to go internals, cams and headers (which are next on my list)… or do a full rebuild. Once complete get a good tune (I prefer Osiris or TechnoSquare and yes I’ve used both).
Isn’t much more than that.
