Clicking/grinding under acceleration?

I searched but didn't quite find this issue.

When starting to accelerate with the radio off, I can hear the engine making a clicking/grinding noise but then it goes away, it only happens when stepping on the throttle.

You sure it's the engine and not your rear axle?

I'm pretty sure its the front, and its only when you first give it gas, it smooths out after.

it sounds metallic, like a scraping or grinding.

I am having the same exact noise from my 03 G35 5AT. The noise almost sounds like the abs check when you first start moving but louder and more metallic. It only happens when I press the gas pedal and then goes away. I also noticed that sometimes when I let of the gas the clicking happens. It is coming from the front passenger side of the car.

Adamhoud have you taken it to the dealer or found out what it is?

I have a 2005 G35 6MT also and I have the same problem. I have about 23,000 miles on my car and I took it to the dealer and the master tech said it is coming from the rear axle, a part by the rear axle needs to be lubricated. Took about 30 minutes to lubricate both sides and the clicking noise was gone. Also everything was covered under warranty!!! I hope this helps everyone because it seems like a lot of people are having this same problem.

In Australia Nissan don't sell G35's so I imported an 2003 V35 from Japan. 30k (klms) on the clock. Fantastic car, although I'm bit worried about a few of the negatives I've read on the site (soft paint etc). I am getting exactly the same noise. Mine is a semi-auto. Doesn't really happen in manual mode - only in auto and is worst when cold and usually on change from 1st to 2nd (low revs)

^SEARCH!

It's the rear axle TSB. Take it to the dealer!

I've just had the brakes and rotors renewed. Noise not there anymore. I notice that manual says when anti-lock self test occurs, you may hear a "clunk" noise and/or pulsation in brake pedal. This is supposed to be normal. Will also occur if actuator rapidly applies pressure (according to the manual). I know the brakes and rotors were worn, and maybe the system was letting me know. I will monitor n let you know if noise returns.
I will get the axle checked as well

I took it in to the dealer on Saturday, they did a quick inspection and didn't notice anything but are keeping it till today to have the senior tech check it out. They also noticed that the oil was a quart low (after I just put in a quart a few weeks ago), they are starting the oil consumption test...looks like I got an oil burner ugh. Hopefully they will be able to reproduce the problem.

My 03 VQ35 doesn't seem to have the oil consumption problems. Anyone know what's causing it?
