Re: I can spend about a grand.

Do the plenum then. You'll still have $500 left over, so take that and invest it on a Y Pipe which is your next most restrictive element after the cats. Then take your remaining $100 to the nudey bar .

Hasn't the Kinetix cracked while some people were using them?

Re: I can spend about a grand.

Kinetix is plastic Crawford is metal. A few cases of cracked Kinetix probably a combination of "version 1" and over tightening. My understanding is that the plenum requires very little torque and one poster even advised me to hand tighten the nuts. Kinetix claims 30 degrees cooler temps. Crawford uses our same plenum, just modifies it. Crawford comes in different colors. Kinetix comes in black.

I'm going with Crawford mostly because the shop is 3 hours from me.

Re: I can spend about a grand.

exactly how much hp and speed do you gain from the plenum/cats mod? how much hp for just the plenum? how bout getting a plenum, borla exhaust, and z-tube/popcharger combo?

New cats are illegal. Get the plenum and Injen exhaust.

Re: I can spend about a grand.

I think I want the Stillen dual exhaust. I know it's expensive as hell, but it posts far better gains than any of the other exhausts. Does anybody here have it? if so was it worth the super large amount of money or not?

Re: I can spend about a grand.

Here's an excerpt from a post regarding the "Exhaust shootout" on the Z. Do you think the Stillen's worth that much more?

_______________
All manufacturer's systems Hp and torque numbers were lower than advertised. Not a surprise.

They used two cars in the test. Car 2's baseline HP was about 1.5%-2% stronger. Torque difference was small.

Borla (car 2) = 8.2 Hp - 2.7 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
HP increase from 5500 rpm to 6500 rpm range. Lost HP & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm pipe. Weighs 52lbs.

5Zigen (car 2) = (-3.4) Hp - .02 ft/lbs torque (peak values) Lost Hp, no real torque gain. Most expensive. Loudest. 58mm pipe. Lightest @ 25lbs.

Injen (car 1) = 7.6 Hp - 5.1 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Small torque loss at 2800 rpm. Torque gain starts at 3300 rpm. Small Hp increase starts at 3300 rpm, maxing out from 5800 rpm to redline. Major loss in Hp and torque below 2200 rpm. 49lbs.

Nismo (car 1) = 6.3 Hp - 4.5 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Developed torque and Hp over wide rpm range. Torque increase starting at 3000 rpm. Most HP increase from 4800 rpm to redline. No power losses below 1800 rpm. 54lbs.

Stillen (car 1) = 8.1 Hp - 7.3 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Hp and torque increase starting around 3000 rpm to redline. Lost a little Hp & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm pipe. 74lbs - 10 lbs heavier than the stock system.

GeoBau,

FYI. The content of your above post has been "selectively" edited. The peak horse power and torque numbers are correct.
Peak numbers don't tell the real story.

Re: I can spend about a grand.

although i don't really advocate using this because of reliability issues, if you want the best bang for your buck, go with a nitrous oxide setup. it will give you more power than any header, intake, and exhaust setup ever will (unless you have a s/c or turbo attached to it). if i'm not mistaken, some guy on this forum ran 12.8 on a nitrous setup.

Hell no. I'd end up crashing into a tree. NOS is dangerous.

Re: I can spend about a grand.

Cats are BS just rip them out you dont need any animals in your car. it shouldnt cost you more than 100 if even that to rip them out and put test pipes. you wont ever have to smog the car up to 5yrs i think but then you just put them on when you need to. BUT seriously look into getting the intake manifold.
