Front crank pulley removal. Difficult?
Seems like it would be hard to remove if you have to use a puller. Can it be taken off by hand or gently tapping it?
Considering putting on my lightweight pulley. And since this one is a press fit, is the aluminum pullies hard to get off?

My crank pulley was VERY DIFFICULT to remove. We moved the radiator and condensor and went through 2 impact guns without success. Ended up leveraging a breaker bar against the ground (make SURE it's on the driver's side!!!) and cranking the engine to break the bolt loose. Unplug your coil packs before trying. It's scary but it works. The front of the car lifted up 3 times before breaking loose.
sounds dangerous.
i tried taking off my pulley last night and no luck. i read about the method of putting the breaker bar on the ground but god that sounds like im begging for catastrophe. any other suggestions on getting that thing off?
Good luck breaking loose the crank bolt. You'll need to lock the flywheel and then get a huge breaker/cheater bar. It will be a two man job.
Not too hard. Use a breaker bar & use extra extension via the floor jack handle. Make sure you use a 1/2" socket not a 3/8".
Remove the ignition fuse located under the drivers kick panel. The fuse was the top left, IIRC.
Once you get that nut loose the crank pulley just needs a little persuasion to come off. Has to come off evenly. If you have a rubber mallet just tap it a little here and there and then use both hands on either side and pull it out evenly.

Loosening and removing the pulley was not too difficult. Putting it on was more challenging since it's notched and needs to be lined up with the crankshaft. Took an hour total. Good luck.

The easiest way is to just use a big enough air wrench to impact the thing off. The Ingersoll-Rand 2235 TiMAX 1/2" drive is rated at 1000 ft/lbs reverse and 1400 ft/lbs forward and it will knock off even the most stubborn bolt in a half second. Electric impact wrenches are usually in the 300-400 lb range and just don't have enough kick to EASILY get a lot of bolts off.
True but if you’re trying to keep the pulley from spinning I’m not sure more torque equals less spin, or less chance of engine damage. I was a dumbass and had everything taken apart and just had the crankshaft bolt to remove so I could remove the front timing chain cover. It was a small exploratory fix that just kept getting deeper.
The crank pulley won't rotate at all with an impact wrench, torquing the bolt back down is the only time you need to support the thing. I typically use either a piston stop or a ring gear lock, I was hesitant about using a piston stop on this motor though (I don't use them for larger engines anymore only small engines like lawnmowers and such) and couldn't find any good alternatives last spring when I was putting an underdrive pulley on the neighbors car so I ended up buying the Kent-Moore one which was a little over $200.
There's a lot of ways to keep it from turning though and if it's a 6MT then it's REALLY easy, just put it in 6th gear and set the parking brake.

So i have the 6mt, currently tryna take the crank pulley off ( i already took all the other pulleys off) so that i can get to the timing chain. i put it in 6th with the ebrake and its still spinning while tryna take it off. what else can i do?
Borrow a big impact wrench from somebody.
