I "FIXED" my oil consumption on the v2

To make a long story short, I was consuming about 1qt/500-700 miles on the original motor in my 07 6mt. Failed consumption test and was approved for replacement, new engine installed. Added 2 quarts over the first 1000 miles, went in around 1200 for first service. I was seriously angry and contacted a lawyer about lemon buyback options. So after i left the dealer, did a couple things, drove another 70 miles or so, so i was near 1300 at the time. Met up with another G driver who was much more heavily modded then me and we went out on the highway, where i was struggling to keep up. Did a good 20 mins or so high rpm (never under 5,000, 5550 the entire 20 mins) at speeds from about 100-130ish the whole time. 600 miles later and i am only down maybe 1/3 of a quart at most, perhaps only 1/4. The car also feels noticeably better, more low/midrange torque. I honestly believe the hard, track type driving did it, rings actually seated correctly. I had drove it kind of hard at first but i think what the motor needs is sustained, high speed, high rpm driving within the first thousand miles or so. i wouldn't be beating it straight off the lot, but in the future if i get a new engine, after a few hundred miles it's getting the beatdown of the century and an immediate oil change after

I don't know if Nissan does this, but BMW takes their cars over 100 MPH as soon as it comes off the assembly line. It's one of the final checks before shipping. They keep it over 100 for a few minutes and then get into braking tests. I'm thinking the Infiniti would be the same thing. I took my G to 7 K while in the break-in period but the main thing to avoid is a constant RPM. Keep it moving up and down and everything will be fine. I would avoid "sustained" operation over 5K during the break-in period. (The dealer pretty well told me the same thing.)

I drove my V2 "easy" for the first 100 miles. After that it was "drive it like it SHOULD be driven". No oil consuption thus far and I'm a little over 2500 miles into the V2. First oil change was at 600 miles and there was plenty of metal shavings in there. Second oil change was at 1400 miles and it was nice and clean. Third oil change is coming next weekend. After this I'll stick with the 3750-4000 mile intervals.

you're all killing me.

I pick up my freshly installed V2 tomorrow courtesy of infiniti warranty replacement and everything in this thread flys in the face of what I have been told to do for the 1st 1200 miles.

I also just got my V2 installed in my 2006 coupe 6mt, along with a new JWT clutch and flywheel. I'm only a few hundred miles into breaking it in and haven't exceeded 4000rpm as recommended by the dealer yet.

I've heard a lot people recommend that you should rev it up higher than that though during break in, just not for an extended period of time. Kind of a noob question, but will that have any negative effect on the breaking in of my clutch?

rpms you drive at and shift points have nothing to do with your clutch. If you know what gear to go in at whatever rpm and how to use your clutch without making a bad choice you won't burn it.

You will hear different things from different dealers and manufacturers. My Infiniti dealership said there was NO break-in period. Many others have claimed their dealers said the same. You know that most engine manufacturers run the engines on a bench prior to delivery right. This is one of those questions that you will get 20 different answers from 20 different people, all of whom are "experts".

So I am currently down 1 quart at about 2500 miles. While it still isn't great, it's better then 1 quart ever 5-600 i was getting at first

picked up my V2 replaced G today. Dealer says no need for oil change until 1500 and to keep it under 3k rpm until then. Also they filled it with 10w30 again as they did for the OC test.

I don't agree. I'm changing at 500 to 5w30 and will do it again at 1200.

I am thinking stick with dino at the 500 change and go mobil one at 1200.

I am also not staying under 3k rpm for 1500. TSB for breakin says 4k not 3 and I think brief runups over that are needed.

Looking for more opinons here both on rpm and anything else on oil during break in. I do not want to go through another longblock replacement and I want to go boost. I am not dropping coin on that until I am sure the engine is tight and ready for it.

All I can say is this:

1) Vary the speed of your car as much as possible
2) Downshift (with double clutching) as you approach every traffic light to slow down.
3) Follow the break-in procedure Nissan specifies.

Doesn't down shifting cause more wear on the engine which means more oil burned?

I would assume putting it in neutral is a better alternative?

I'm surprised how many people are getting their engines replaced. Seems like all the 06's for sale are OC failures and have a V2 in them.
