Loud screeching noise
This morning i started my car and let it sit for about 5 minutes. I put the car in reverse and i heard a loud screeching noise coming from the engine bay. I put it in park and turned the car off and on again and the sound is gone. Anyone know what it could've been?
probably one of the belts...have you changed your belts recently? I've had some random screeching noises on start up ever since I've replaced my belts, especially when I have the A/C on start up.
My guess is, it's either too loose, or too tight. I've been trying to dial in the right tension, but it's hard to do so when it only screeches like once every 2 months, not to mention those 10 millions bolts to remove the lower cover.

I went to tightened one of the belts this past sunday while I changed my oil.
I gave both belts a finger check and guessed that the skinnier belt of the two could use a little more tension. I'm assuming that some of these belts has a break-in period causing it to stretch and loosen up a bit. The thicker belt seemed ok so I left that alone. So far so good, no squeals. Then again, it's only been about 3 days.

I also tightened the belt and the noise went away. I can turn it about 45 degrees now, before I could turn in 90 degrees. I guess the problem was I just didn't tighten it enough. The G35 belts love to be TIGHT...
I basically replaced parts that didn't need to be replaced. Anyone need a belt tensioner pulley, alternator, and/or belt?

I'd also like further explanation on this one..... That would be great if I didn't have to pull 30 bolts.
Do you have to loosen the pulleys to tighten the belts or just tighten the adjustment bolts?

With that said...for each belt, one bolt(pulley) to unlock/loosen it...and then one bolt(usually on a bracket) to crank it up and down to adjust the tension.
That's what I thought, thanks a lot. I replaced both my belts tonight and they are a bit loose, nice squeal on start and for a few blocks after at 2000+ rpm. I guess I'll have to break down and rip that retarded 30 bolt cover off again and tighten.
