This is a quote from my350z.com. It looks like they've discovered that when you power brake a launch it cuts power by 30%. Anyone have any proof if this is true with the G's? InfinitiTech, we need you....
i have a question regarding my 5at. I've read in posts that if you power bake in this car, the ecu will cut off 30% of the power, or something like that. I was just wondering if any of you had tried both at the strip. From a stand still, when i just hit the gas without power braking, TCS off and all, i get full traction, not even a squeak from the tires. But when i power brake to about 2500 rpm, my tires break loose for a little while. Does that mean by power braking, im putting more power to the ground, even with the power cut off? Anyone else experiencing the same?

i generally brake-torque to 2000 rpms for a better launch (not that i drag). i think a little wheel hop is good as it gives the car a forward lurch at launch. anyone know if im completely wrong?

Your right...power braking does cut power by 30% .Salution...take out the brake light fuse while at the track .There is some one that has hooked up a switch to the fuse that he can disconect the brake light at any time.I plan on doing this my self

hey booger, that's me. Not sure about it in fact restoring the supposed 30% loss of power, but it does COMPLETELY inactivate brake LSD, TCS, and VDC, which lets you really let it rip!

Wow. . .this sounds really cool. But, I don't understand how it works. Gurgen, can you explain? I've power brake start every once and a while and with my VDC off I can usually chirp the tires or at least get a REALLY good jack-rabbit launch! Does it matter that I have a coupe? Thx!

you have to buy a minicircuit from autozone ($5) that plugs into the fuse socket. You actually don't use the circuit part of it, you just use the plug from the minicircuit to route two wires (in and out) and through a switch. Of course, on one of those line, you install an inline fuse socket (autozone - $4) and plug a 10amp fuse. So, you have the same circuitry as before when the switch is closed, when you open the switch - it's like removing that brake light fuse.

Oops. I asked the wrong question. Thanks for ur reply, but what I meant to ask was what does the brake light fuse do? Is there part of the slip control tied directly to the brake lights or something? How does removing it help? Thx!

Yes
As I said earlier, the Nissan engineers, for reasons that escape me (or maybe just to appease to modders? who knows) tied all three throttle modulation systems, BrakeLSD, VDC (upgraded TCS), to the brake lamp fuse. Pull the fuse, and your car can avail itself to unlimited drifting competitions, not to mention doing true spinouts wihtout the comuter budding in.
You can accomplish the same thing by pulling the VDC fuse from the battery compartment and still keep your brake lights (but of course this is far harder to do).

In my 2004.5 Coupe, I turned off my VDC (I didn't remove any fuse), power braked to 2200 RPMs and peeled out for about a second. It was enough to knock my 1/4 time up (meaning worse) a half a second.
This told me three things:
1) Power brake to 2200 if I want to peel out for a 16 year old girl.
2) Power brake to 1500 if I want a great time (this was the best times I achieved after numerous tests)
3) Leave the VDC on for pure drag racing.
Caveat to #3....if you have enough power to really tear it up, or if you are autocrossing, or if you're driving something other than a 2004.5 Coupe, this may change.
Having said that, I did turn the VDC off once in the rain and spun her around real good. This makes me think that simply turning the VDC switch off fully disables VDC. (at least for my car). Others have reported that it will still retard throttle but I didn't experience this in my rainy day test.
Is it possible that 03/04 or Coupe/Sedan have differences?

But you woldn't experience it on a rainy day... as it is not the VDC that is not getting deactivated. VDC in fact DOES get inactivated - it is the brake-LSD feature that is on full time - which impedes really hard launches, such as me peeling out with my modded T/C - at 2500 hundred I can stand there and burn my tires for 3 seconds before I take off.

Oh I see what you're saying. That's right, the stock LSD that came with my 18" performance pkg is a viscous coupler type LSD.
So you're saying that rather than operating like a mechanical LSD, it brakes the spinning wheel rather than mechanically engaging the non-spinning wheel. Is that what your'e saying? I hadn't thought of it that way, I guess I assumed that even with the viscous coupled LSD it was merely engaging the other wheel rather than braking the spinning one.
I figured if one did not get the LSD option, VDC would simply brake the spinning wheel, but with LSD option nothing would be braked. If the LSD simply brakes the spinner, why did I even bother getting the LSD option with the wheel pkg? That's mainly why I got it.

Yes, you are right on
that's what sucks about this... even the VLSD optioned cars have the brake-LSD feature... probably tuend to a lower threshold though - but they DO have it.

Wow so the switch is the money...it kills your brake lights as well? So for fleeing and eluding police there's only one solution where you can run in stealth mode and have every available hp hit the ground.
