idler pully

this is the idler pulley or the belts. either one or both. i have a 2006 G35 sedan 6mt with 10K miles on it. no bad weather or anything. i got the noise about one year ago. had it take to the dealer and the report said that the idler pulley (did not state which one) was worn and replaced.

noise came back 5 months later and they replaced the belts. both time noise was gone. it is back..so i think that the other pulley is gone. now i have to see which one. also could be loose belt. i will check. not as bad this time. but if it is a horrendous noise i bet it is the pulley bearing. the dealer said that they were bad.

thanks

john

p.s. all was warrenteed

I thought my idler pulley was bad but it was not (in my case) it was my aftermarket belt. look at ur belt and see if it says nissan on it.

I just replaced both belts with gatorbacks cause they were dry rotted and now I get the squeal only on cold starts. Never had it prior to the replacement. Will the dealer charge me to check the belts if i'm out of warranty?

I have pretty much the exact problem as the op. Got my belts replaced, and my car squeals horribly after I start it up if it has been sitting for a few hours. Goes away after 10-15 seconds. I've read the entire thread, and there seems to be no consensus on the problem. I really don't want to spend a bunch of money at the stealership, but I have no clue what the problem is. This has been going on for months now, and I'm ready to get it fixed.

Aftermarket belts, especially quality ones, wont cause issues. Its all about proper tension. If its squeaking check out your idler pullies. Remove belts and spin the pullies. If operation is not smooth but you hear internal grinding in the pulley the bearing is bad.

If idler pullies are good then you just need to tighten the belts a little more. Do not over tighten or you will cause issues...

its all about the outside temp, I have OEM belts and when its really cold (less then 45 or so) it will squeak.
the best and only thing that helps is candle hold a candle under the belt and it will stop

its squeaking because your tension is off.
