Were there any 5AT sedans that made runs? I'm curoious to see a comparison of the Sedan's numbers.

Re: Central FL dyno day results are in!

Do all the folks with Z tubes and stock airboxes also use K&N drop ins? Also, does anyone think that the results for the guy with the Injen intake and the greddy exhaust could be the result of the intake offing a bit more power and the exhaust losing a bit to break even? I would love to see injen off and on results on the same car...hmmm maybe if I had some extra cash next month I could test the same car with z-tube, stock tube, pop charger and z tube and then injen. And then a stock vs stock plus ecu reset.

Also interesting as mentioned is that the ztube + pop charger car equals almost identically the ztube + grounding kit car. Where does one see that the pop charger does add power?

Please note SAE correction factor does not factor in temperature. You know I had you neffster! lol. It pays to show up early doesn't it. My APEXi exhaust came in today. No more rasp! Woop. Nice meeting all you guys.

NikNala,
Do you have a source you are referencing when you say SAE correction doesn't factor in temperature? My understanding is that the commonly used SAE J1349 standard does account for intake temp as well as barometric pressure. Unfortunately http://sae.org charges money to download the document that outlines this standard but others may have a credible source to verify one way or another.

Re: Central FL dyno day results are in!

I have to respectfully disagree with you on that. Numerous stock dynos of 350z's on my350z.com show ranges from 220s to 240s.

Back in February, on the same dyno on the same day, my 5AT coupe got 220 HP with z-tube. Another 5AT coupe with z-tube and popcharger got 236 HP. As much as I love the popcharger, I don't believe that once I added it, I would be close to 236, that's a 16HP gain.

1-3 HP is such a small margin. If you dyno the same car on more than one run, I'm sure you'll see that kind of difference right there.

Re: Central FL dyno day results are in!

we did do more than one run. most of us were goin to do 3 with the air to fuel but since the sniffer broke, many of those people that were goin to do 3 runs with wideband decided just to do 2. and i am one of those people.

Pictures of Dyno Day

Great write up, Neff. Was looking forward to reading this. Thanks for organizing the event and making it happen with Titan motorsports.

Re: Central FL dyno day results are in!

Al, that fan did not move air worth a squat. It was patheticly under powered. Infact, I joked that if I waved my clip board infront of the intake that I could double or triple the fans output.

As far as the CAI's are concerned, there was a 350Z with a CAI that got about 235 rwhp. The stock G35's were getting about 230 rwhp. I'd be real interested to see Wes show this comparison (make sure to match the trannies correctly). The stock 350Z has about 5-6 rwhp advantage on the stock G35. If the 350Z holds a solid 5 hp over the entire rpm range, this would prove that the CAI does not produce on the VQ35DE. Wes, can you make this happen?

Everyone, thanks for the kind words. I really wanted this to be a resourse to help people and not something that started a war. So far you guys have been great and I'm glad I took the time to do the write up.

One more thought... I'd like to remind everyone that there are many factors that the dyno does not take into consideration like:

1. Tire Pressure
2. Fuel Octane (and where you filled up)
3. How often you change the engine oil
4. The type of engine break-in
5. The weight of the rear tires
6. Even the rolling radius of the tire

...and so on.

Zimbo, Thanks for pointing out the 18% paracitic loss = 1.22 multiplication factor. I kind of skipped over this in my write-up and might have slightly misled some people by mentioning this factor was not what I expected to see (as I was expecting to see a 15%-17% paracitic loss based on what I had heard in the past )

I completely agree that you wont see that kind of gain by adding the popcharger but like Neff pointed out there are other factors plus i have no idea anything about your dyno day (dyno used, CF method and version, etc.) If you have a copy of your run and not just a jpg or printout then throw it in that program and see how close u are to Daniel who has only the Ztube.
It sounds like the 236 is exactly on target and you 220 was a bad run or bad read.

ALL of our results (except the Injen Intake with Greddy Exhaust) showed exactly what we were thinking. If I would have seen off the wall numbers like you then I would question something and not stick by the results.

Well i cant be 100% sure as i dont know exactly what the grounding kit does, if anything. But it looks as though the popcharger gives 3hp from 4300-5750RPM. Then either the stock airbox is better or the grounding kit actually helps near redline. Im not sure which.

Neff: what do u want me to compare?
350Z with Injen (Chris) VS G35 stock (Ian)??
you didnt send me Chris's run. email it to me and i'll post that

Re: Central FL dyno day results are in!

I wish that I had the file, but we only got printouts that day. Everything was on a dynojet, SAE. We had 3 runs on my car, and each was basically 220. Most cars were gaining a few horses with consecutive runs, for some reason mine did not.

I know we can't compare absolute numbers with different machines, but for what it's worth, my car was making about 195 HP at 4.5K, and 210HP at 5K, but from 5K all the way to 6K it only gained 10 HP.

I would love to redyno on the same machine in the near future, but I'm too broke to pay $60 some dollars.

Neff, please remove that dyno pic in your first post, or resize it to fit.

Max width is like 620 pixels.
