Kinetix vs. Motordyne

I was looking into the difference between the Kinetix plenum and Motordyne plenum spacer and mrev2.

It seems like they both do the same thing. Power gains look like their about the same (according to the manufacturers).

It seems like the lack of reliability of the KInetix plenum gives the nod to motordyne.

Anyone have any opinions?

easy choice, motordyne has proven independent results from many users, while kinetix has their single highly suspect in house dyno plot, and many users who lost power NA. Only high output FI engines have seen any gain with the kinetix plenum, and that was compared to stock

^im sure he is talking about the plastic one which gives very nice gains, similar to MD spacer.

He said spacer+mrev2, so I assumed he wanted a full replacement. The plastic kinetix plenum only acts like the spacer

Motordyne has an independant dyno from the "Plenum Shootout" on his webpage. This was not done by Motordyne but a third party.

Kinetix replaces the upper plenum and mounts that a bit higher like adding a spacer.

Motordyne replaces the lower plenum and has machined the runners for better flow, then you can add a spacer.

I figured Motordyne was the way to go. I already have a spacer and mrev2 sitting in my living room hopefully they'll make it under my hood this weekend

I would go with Motordyne hands down. I have the 5/16 copper iso thermal spacer and I recently had a problem during my install. I called and directly talked to Tony, the owner of Motordyne, to help solve my problem. Within a couple hours I had taken and emailed him pictures of the problem and he helped me solve the problem personally. I love the gains from my spacer now and can't wait to get an MREV2!

I cannot stress enough how impressed I was with the customer service of Tony and Motordyne as a whole. Outstanding help and genuine concern on their part. Go with anything and everything Motordyne simply because they take the time to R&D their products and back owners up with great, easily accessible customer service.

If you read this, Thanks again Tony!!

i also pondered and decided to go with tony, his company does an insane amount of r+d, check out his exhaust thread, and he's very involved in the forums.

The MREV2 with 5/16 spacer will give you 15 lbs of torque from pretty low RPMs...

And I can't see why we can't use a MREV2 with a Kinetix upper plenum without the spacer... at least if you get tuned...

You would probably see similar gains as a spacer/MREV2 with this combo. Since the OP didn't specify which plenum he was referring to, I assumed the SSV, but he could have been talking about the plastic upper plenum as well

Well, the thing I'm thinking is that the best spacer combo with MREV2 is is the 5/16. I think the 1/2 would be too tall for the Revup motors. So if the Kinetix upper plenum is taller than the 5/16 spacer, it might not work as well. Volume is nothing here... it's the height of the walls and how they'll direct the air into the runners... unless I'm wrong and that won't matter here...

I second what Bigrose said about Motordyne, I have the MD 5/16" spacer and could not be happier with it. You will see the more gains from the spacer than any other bolt-on mod you can buy, hands down the best performance mod I've bought for my car.

Also the customer service is second to none, I recently had a problem with my car that I thought was related to the spacer (turns out it was not) and Tony went above and beyond to advise me and give me suggestions to troubleshoot my car even after I told him it wasn't an issue with the spacer.

Motordyne = Great company, great product, forget about the Kinetix.
