Create an OBD Trouble Code?

Create an OBD Trouble Code?
I just finished writing an OBD II reader program for the ELM chip and I now need to test the Mode 3 and 4 functions for it that query and reset trouble codes.
Anyone know of an easy way to create a trouble code in the g35 so I can test reading and resetting the trouble codes?
Preferably something easy to do that won't actually break anything in the car.

Re: Create an OBD Trouble Code?
god_of_cpu,
ELM = ?
If you want an easy way to bring in one or more DTCs, disconnect your MAF Sensor and start the engine. Immediately stop the engine and reconnect the sensor. Re-start the engine and you should see the SES light.
Your ECM should be at least one DTC. Most likely you'll also have a 1st trip DTC, Freeze Frame Data, 1st trip Freeze Frame Data. I don't think this will bring in a 2nd trip... or "Two Trip Detection Logic" code. Hopefully you will have the STR code.
Good luck.

Re: Create an OBD Trouble Code?
Thanks, I'll try to disconnect the MAF once I go home.
The ELM is a chip that is used to interpret OBD II data directly from the OBD II BUS and turn it into a more convienent ASCII format capable of being read by PC serial ports.
See this thread for more info on the chip and how to create a circuit. http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...734#post200734
You can also purchase the circuit at www.scantool.net

Re: Create an OBD Trouble Code?
That is what I was gonna suggest. I just had my SES light
come on because I left the gas cap attached to the door
instead of on the gas tank. Our Gs will sense this and throw
on the Service Engine Soon light. It will take a few drive cycles
for it to be detected.
