where to buy torque wrench

hey, does anyone know what a good place to buy a cheap, but good torque wrench. one that will satisfy all the needs a DIYer might have. such as wheels, plenum, etc, etc, etc. some go for 10 bucks on ebay i think.

Autozone, Sears, WalMart. Make sure it goes below 120 inch pounds, the $10 deals I've seen start at 120 inch pounds and you'll need 60 inch pounds for your plenum. Provided it's not warped.

Re: where to buy torque wrench

Also remember the 20% accuracy rule. Torque wrenches are not nearly as accurate within 20% of their over all operational range (could be read as =/-10%)...

Example... You have a 150 ft-lb torque wrench, the accuracy range is from 15ft-lbs to 135ft-lbs. Anything above or below this range and the torque wrench is not very accurate. Don't forget to buy a breaker bar, as a torque wrench should NOT be used to remove hardware.

I got mine from Sears and it's held up well. Just follow the proper storage instructions and you'll be just fine.

regardless of whether you pay $10 or $500 for a facom, get them calibrated once or twice a year (depending on how much you use it.)

I got a snap-on click type torque wrench and it works like a charm. It's guaranteed to be within 3 lbs. from 50 to 250 lb/ft. I had it checked and it was 1 lb too strong.

Got mine at sears. They consider the craftsman a hand-tool so it has a lifetime warranty

Re: where to buy torque wrench

nuttyprof - I got one at Sears to install the suspension you sold me. I got a cheap one - the kind with a guage face just above the handle and as you torque a red needle moves across the face and tells you your ft/lbs. Working on the suspension, this wrench was hard to read because of the tight spaces I was working in.. Also, as I was trying to fine tune the ft/lbs and get it right on, it was very hard to get an accurate reading since the needle kept moving around. It costs more, but I think you'll be happier with a higher-end wrench - the kind where you dial in the ft/lbs and don't have to read a guage. They're easier to use and more accurate. The cheap kind I got was difficult to use and inaccurate.

Re: where to buy torque wrench

not to rub it in..but I got my torque wrenches direct from Snap on for dirt cheap . I sometimes pick them up on route and one of the guys hooked me up Anyway, I think I would also consider sears Craftsman. You can't beat the warranty and the convienence of exchanging it if you have a problem.
