Dip Stick Guide
I find that its so difficult seeing the dipstick hole that its hard to re-insert the dipstick, especially in dim light. Since I had things apart yesterday, I decided to paint the guide.

Re: Dip Stick Guide
Seems to make it a lot easier to see. Now if only the stick didn't have all those wacky bends....

Thanks gordgee...
Good ideas are often the simple ones.
I'll be doing this one when I do my Z-tube

Re: Dip Stick Guide
I avoid this guide at all costs. It should be called the "Dirt and smegma collector". Everytime your dipstick touches this thing on the way in, it is dragging smegma into your engine with it.
I put on a latex glove, and grab the bottom of the dipstick with one hand and snake my other hand under my intake tube and use a finger as a guide, thus the dipstick never touches the OEM Smegma Collector.

Catatafish
I agree with you about the smucky sluiceway.
What I'd really like to see is a custom dipper.
When I have mine appart for the Z-tube I'm going look at what it would take to fabricate an extension tube up form the current insert point.
This would also require a new, redimensioned dip stick.
If it's feasable I have some contacts that do custom fabrication that would probably help.

Re: Dip Stick Guide
I agree you have to be careful not to drag some of that gunk into your engine. At least this way, it's easier to see when it's dirty on the bright yellow and either clean or avoid.
An extension tube would be great, with a straighter stick. Anyone know if a straighter stick is easier to read in this engine? The OEM one comes out smeared with oil unless the engine's cold!

Your telling me! You can't even get an accurate reading...by the time the darn dip stick gets done swirving through fifteen diff angles, most of the oil on the stick has been relocated somewhere else on the stick!
2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

Yeah. That's what the latex gloves are for! I have a few physician friends that use latex gloves, and "use their fingers as a guide"!

Re: Dip Stick Guide
Too late! Besides, I've never seen anyone give a rectal exam to a duck!
Come to think of it, maybe that's what the OEM dip stick could be used for!
