is it "illegal" to install software you purchased into multiple PC's that you own? say, you have both a laptop and desktop, both belonging to you and only used by you?

Yeah it does help a bit more than cdkeys.. I had winxp pro corp edition final a few months before it came out.. no activation required.. there are many cracks for winxp to get the activation requirement out.. after that.. you have to get around the service pack activation validation.. LOL

For installing on multiple machines, you'll have to read the licensing agreement. Some licenses allow multiple copies, but only if used by one person and only one copy in use at any given time. Some are stricter, some are more lenient.

Pesti: I bet I can tell you what product key you're using, and it's been disabled in SP1. Those hacks don't work with SP1 either. There is a way to change a product key on an already installed system so you can install SP1, but you need a valid product key.

One advantage to buying a "legal" ESM is you register with Infinity and they send you all the TSB's/Updates as the manual is revised at no/little charge. That alone is worth at least one person here buying the legal copy. For me a "backup" copy of the ESM will suit my purposes if anyone wants me to hold a "backup" copy for them in case they lose the original. You know just for safekeeping.

 

I thought that the ESM was on the internet as a pdf file. I believe you can download the product. When you first run it, you are required to register. A parts guy told me it's the same as the ESM CD. At least I think I saw that somewhere. :-)
