S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
I'm planning on going with the Vortech s/c kit. My question is what do you guys think is best, using the supplied SS piggyback, or sending the ecu to technosquare? Maybe tune with the SS and take the final results to technosquare to have them flashed to the ecu. I keep reading about the factory ecu possible reverting the changes or taking the piggyback numbers and trying to tune with them. Meaning, you set for optimum, then next thing you know the factory ecu says I want to go a little leaner and it's thrown the piggyback off to a leanner state. Any feedback would be appeciated.

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
i can tell you this
:
the split second (r4) does what it should. and very well. Unless you can have TS custom map the car for you (requiring your car to be there) then you are still not getting the most efficient and reliable tune. If you are already remapped thru TS, you'll need to return the alterations to oem (fairly sure) before proceeding (would make it a bear to SS tune if not).... (maybe leaving the higher shiftpoint, and speed limiter removed, if not, you'll not see max boost - i think!!!!)
. I have nothing but good things to say about my custm mapping (its pricey, but there's really no substitute for wideband dyno tuning, with cell-by-cell accuracy, IMO

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
I went with TS only, no other electronics installed in my car (I have to Procharger. I havne't seen my A/F curve yet, but Doug at Crawfords says its almost perfect, and producing 380RWHP. I am not a fan of adding 'black boxes' to my car, especially under the hood where the SS recomends installing it!

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
heres my concern......
(this black box has a great range of tun-a-bility)
how did TS know the exact values your car was emitting/producing???
no doubt you have excellent numbers, KP (if we know the type of dyno, it'd be even better/revealing), im just wondering how much actual dyno-tuned mapping was put into this setup
lemme know!
sms
ps- you have the headers too, right??

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
I do have a fuel regulator installed, with a high flow fuel pump, so I do have some tunability. With the TS reflash alone the car did 371, with tuning of the regulator they got it up to 380. The reflash was done BEFORE my car was ever dynoed, so it is not custom at all. I have been told that Crawford Z worked extensively with TS to make a great FI setup in the ECU, that is the main reason I went all the way to Crawford in the beginning. And yes, I do have headers. My main concern bout the SS box is the insides corroding away over time, I've seen the box, I've seen it velcroed to the side of a battery, and I wasn't impressed.

kev-
you'd know better about this than me 9it has a 3 year warranty, for what thats worth)
as for the FPR, i have one too (oem vortech)... i dont understnad the 'tuned' aspect of it though..... (im still learning)
the SS box can easily be mounted inside the car (as many do) if thats the concern..........
im just thinking, if you're getting 380 now , imagine a full - out custom mapping!!
mine went from 304 to 365 (on a mustang inertia dyno), equating to about 390 dynojet HP...... once custom mapped......
find out the a/f readings and lets see if we can estimate the power- to - safety range of the setup!

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
I did the TS custom flash for my AT 2003 G35 + added the SS box for fine tuning. It all seems to work great after some Dyno time to adjust A/F. Everyone should Dyno for final adjustments.

My vortech should be here in a couple of weeks and I'm very interested in a TS / SS box combo. I pm'd DFWG35 and got some great info on using the two.
Have you ever dynoed and watched the hp numbers get better with additional pulls? I went with Rugratcoupe to dyno with his TS and all three pulls were within 1hp of each other. I have had over 10 hp difference with the stock ecu.
All I'm saying is I don't know if I want that thing thinking on its own!

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
The way I understand it, my high flow fuel pump has the potential to pump large amounts of fuel to the system. The regulator will limit the amount of fuel accessible to the engine, so it will require tuning for the the proper amount. Like I said, I havn't seen my A/F chart yet, and I actually haven't even seen my car since the S/C was installed, but I have been in contact with Crawfords and I am going off of what they say. I am picking the car up Friday morning and then maybe I'll know more

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
So a good hypothesis would be that if you already have the TS ecu reflash on a N/A engine, getting the reflash for a S/C and various mods makes sense and it's just down to fine tuning from there out with the SS box.
Or are some of you thinking no SS box, just FPR management?

Re: S/C- Split-Second or Technosquare
Ok...If you have a TS flash and are getting the vortech...you will need to send it back to TS and have them put the fuel and timing back to stock...but have them leave the rev limiter at 7,100 or 7,200 rpm's.....leave the speed limiter out.....and leave the throttle body 100% open at WOT...if thats done..if not ...have them add that.....after the SC install you will need nothing else...except to get the vortech tuned as it is tuned very conservitive .The SS box is in a very safe place and will not be hurt by the battery .It is very tunable...Fuel and timing can be tuned with the R4 software that you will need to buy from Split Second.......
